I find myself with a bunch of burdens on my shoulders and whenever I've prayed about it, I've still been worrying about it even though I can't control it. Anyone in the same situation or know how you can quit worrying about stupid stuff?

Allot of good answers here....but I'll try to add something anyhow.
First assuming that you have a relationship with the LORD,(are saved) you must trust in the LORD.... (Isa 26:3) let me elaborate.
Imagine a loving mother standing at the foot of the stairs as her 12 month old baby girl is coming down the stairs for the first time on her own. The mother is lovingly encouraging her to keep going shes almost there....with still 4 or 5 steps to go the mother lovingly says, jump to mommy sweetie; as mommy holds out her arms the little girl walks straight off the step into her mothers loving and protecting arms without the slightest worry that mommy might not be there for her, that mommy might not take care to catch her....this is the kind of child like faith that moves the hand of GOD in our lives. This is how you must give your cares to JESUS OUR SAVIOR. I know that it is a hard thing to do. It can not be done with out knowing and believing what the word says. For any problem that you are facing, pick a verse of scripture that pertains to your situation. Next pray to the LORD showing him that his word says in Isa 26:3 for example, that he promises to give you peace because you trust him. If you determine in your heart that "you will trust THE LORD" and believe what the scripture says no matter what it looks like in the natural , I guarantee that "he will" work it out, for he loves you, you are the apple of his eye...I have experienced this in my own life over and over again. Remember this, to trust in the LORD is a muscle that only grows through exercise....you don't recieve it in a prayer line.
~GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU UNDER HIS SHADOW~

You are right, most of the "conventional" christians basics are good "theories" but weak in enabling application. We get too much bible quotes and not enough real practical stuff. The trick, apologies for using that word, but the trick is to intergrate reality and faith. First the Lord more often than not uses real people and event to come to our aid. Like they say sometimes one thing lead to to the next. In my experience, will power is a given. You must come to a place of quiet and assurance that the Lord has heard your prayer. Secondly, know that its also spiritual warfare, get matured christians to talk and pray with. Third, analyse your problem logically maybe consult with people who can help you, start at what ever level or situation you are in and make plans to combat whatever situation even if it seems so little compared to the moutain you are face with. Waiting on the Lord does not necessary means doing nothing, but more of an anticipation on what the Lord will do. expect miracles. Look the truth is some prayer gets instant answers, some prayer don't, just have to have patience to refine your faith. Break down your mountain, dont try to tackle the whole. Break it into smaller parts or steps and pray for answers to the smaller bits and over time it will be significant. Faith will grow and you will be able to tackle bigger and bigger mountains as the Lord will add to your faith.

Its not easy letting go and letting God do the worrying for us. There was two times I remember letting God take my burdens from me and 1st time was when I got saved, and 2nd time was when we needed a car badly. We had no means of getting a car without going in debt futher. So we both told God he will have to supply a car if he wanted my husband to work. We both knew God said if ya don't work you don't eat. So about 2 to 3 weeks later of trusting God for a car, he supplied a car. Some friends of ours bought us a car. When God supplies a car let me tell you that thing was not a fancy car, but we ran it till it had almost 4 hundred thousands miles on it. I don't know the secert for letting him carry our burdens. I know its hard to let him do the work. Not sure what burdens you may have, but if it's food, and clothes. Just remember God said you are worth more than a sparrow. If God can feed the sparrow, and clothe the lillies of the field, how much more will he do for you.

Prayer,

At one time in my life, I was so consumed by trivial things and making them into big problems in my mind that I could not sleep. I almost went to a shrink.

I saw something on TV saying that when these thoughts come up, you have to think of your mind like a TV and change the channel. The way I changed the Channel was through reciting the Lords Prayer over and over in my head, it would let me get to sleep every time.

Now that I am Catholic, I have many more prayers that I use. Most of the time you will not get the "bolt of lightning" type of relief, it is more of a lifestyle of trust in God, but it IS real.

I think this is why younger people who are used to the instant gratification tend to lose faith.

Peace!

Its a lot about letting go of things and trusting that the Lord would take care of it. Perhaps i'll quote you a verse to encourage you.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths" Proverbs 3:5-6

Its all about trusting the Lord of the universe to handle your problems. i mean, come on! If He is God who created the universe, and who can do all things, how big do you think your problems are to Him? Surely He can handle it! Just pray and leave it all to Him, or have someone pray with you about it. All the best!

Pray. It's hard not to worry about "stupid stuff." It really is. But if we give our concerns and burdens to the Lord in our prayers, then we still worry about them, what good have we done? It doesn't help us to give them to Him and then take them back again. There is no "answer" -- just constant prayer and FAITH

You have to have faith to cast them there, and then leave them.

I have to remind myself, Lord, I know that you did this in the past for me. I know your works, I know that I can rest in your word, because it is unfailing.
I can have your shalom peace that passes all understanding.

That is how i handle the worry stuff. Pray Pray Pray!
Pray over yourself, for faith,
NOT to have a spirit of fear(or timidity) but of power love and a sound mind.

The word is the strongest weapon that you have in your walk. Speak it over your life.

Be blessed in Jesus

and to CJ, I am sorry that you say when I was a Christian. I hope whatever it is that made you want to change, changes.

In today's society we are brought with worrying about everything (money, bills, car, work, etc). There is no 'set way' to quit worrying. The best thing you can do is just keep do your prayer and know things will eventually work out. Best of luck.

Just give it up and do not take it back. I know it not as easy as said. If you start to worry about something you have give to the LORD then Ask the LORD to help you to let HIM keep it. Over time it will get easier and easier.

If you break your T.V and take it to a repairman, do you constantly worry about if it is being fixed properly? You may think he is taking too long or charging you too much but I suspect that if you had that little faith in his ability to fix it, you would find someone else to fix it. How then can you have so little faith in your own GOD? Do you not think HIM capable of handling your cares when he holds you in such high esteem? Do you think the T.V. repair man even thinks about who you are to him before he begins the job, or does he just fix it because that is his job? Would he take as much care of your T.V as he would if it was someone in his own family? Think about it...
