shall we steralize female cats after her first delivery or before

According to some research, cats should be fixed (spayed, for females) before they first go into heat, to avoid behavioural habits (like spraying). That means about 7 weeks old.

That is, unless you want your cat to have a litter of kittens. But I have heard that if females are spayed before they reach sexual maturity, it may prolong their life with a couple of years (decreasing chance of uterus cancer, etc.).

If you don't spay your female kitten before she goes into heat you will have the longest three weeks of your life waiting until you can take her to the vet! Your sweet little girl if she goes into heat will be hearing the call of the wild and doing her best to get outside and get to a tom. If you have a male cat in the house (even a neutered one) he will try to mate with her . She will howl, cry, crawl all over you, this will not be a pleasant experience for anyone in the house. I had a kitten go into heat at 4 months and it was miserable waiting for her to complete the cycle until she could be spayed. Have the surgery before the hormonal hayride starts!

Unless you intend to breed her and have homes waiting for the the litter spay her as soon as possible. The world does not need a single more homeless kitten.

Most vets tell responsible pet owner at around six months. I always thought this was due to reproductive organs maturing. That is not true. I now get them done at around 2 months. Most vets may not do this for you with one pet but if you have several kittens that you want to get done before going to homes they should. Not all vets will do prepubescent altering.

I do rescue we do it when they are 3-5 lbs. The biggest thing with the altering is a pets health to handle the anesthesia. I have had to wait on kittens so many of them are born unhealthy where the puppies are usually sturdier. However I do get concerned that the pet may catch something at the vet if full sets of shots have not been given.

Please do not make her have babies before getting her altered. I have heard people say they were told to let them have a litter. That is the sickest thing I have ever heard. Why bring more in to a world of disease death and torture.

My vet told me to do it as soon as possible, he said some clinics will do it at 3 months, however I really wanted my baby girl to have kittens so she could experience the maternal instinct so she had her litter when she was 9 months old, so I got her spayed after that and now she is 5 years old and she got sooooooooo fat that she looks adorable!! but at least she knows what being a mommy and she is a happy happy cat so I would let you cat experience that.

You must sterilise a female cat at the age of six months, in other words before she goes on heat, a female nature changes once she has had kittens, and it also isn't fair to the cat to make her go through a delivery, just to have her kittens taken from her, so sterilisation before she even goes on heat is your best bet.

i think of your mum and dad are asserting that they choose your cat to be neutered or de-sexed. we are saying "sterilize" as quickly as we communicate approximately people. Your mum and dad in basic terms did no longer use the final term. Neutering is a rather elementary technique carried out on the vet's workplace. they'll make your kitty sleep for ashort at the same time as at the same time as they get rid of his testes. it rather is so as that he won't have the skill to make a woman cat pregnant. Aneutered male cat makes a miles greater clever puppy than one that may not neutered. Male cats that are nevertheless "intact" (no longer neutered) tend to roam everywhere in seek of girlfreinds. this would positioned them in a lot of threat which incorporate being run over via autos or bitten via canines or different cats.

Before first heat is the best time, that pretty much eliminates the risk of mammary cancer and it's easier for the vet to do. Once they've been on heat, the ovaries and uterus expand and there are more blood vessels to tie off.

they should be fixed at 6 months -
every litter is a risk to her and a burden to the over population of cats - there will always be some idiots who dont spay and neuter and there will always be some feral cats having kittens plus there will be people with purebreds who breed quality kittens so there will always be enough kittens for those who want them....

ideally they should be spayed BEFORE their first litter

definately before, there is absolutely no benefit to having a litter besides more dumped kittens. They should b desexed at around 5.5months of age. That way they are strong enough to not have complications with anaesthetic, and young enough not to come into season.
