Does anyone think of how this might affect the living loved ones?

It depends on the person and family. Sometimes they hold off on the cremation until after the funeral; then the body is cremated and they have a separate burial service. Other times the body is cremated right away and they have a memorial service and a burial service (at the gravesite) one right after the other. Cremations are cheaper but full burials allow for the family to put the person "at rest" in their minds. As far as possibly being buried alive accidentally: In most states in the U.S at least, dead bodies must be embalmed before burial. Once a person is embalmed, they are dead. Their blood has been removed and replaced with embalming fluid, a preservative. It's a sad time for the living loved ones all around, no matter what.

I am a licensed funeral director in 2 states, so please let me clear up some of these misstatements. First of all, most states typically DO NOT require a body to be embalmed before burial, that is incorrect info that someone gave you. Second of all, contrary to popular belief, burial does not take up as much land space as everyone thinks, because every person on this Earth could be buried in a space the size of Rhode Island. And lastly, you have a better chance of spontaneously combusting than you do of being buried alive.

Cremation pros:
Generally cheaper
Takes up less real estate and is therefore a wiser use of available resources
Finality (no visiting the grave yearly or whatever out of a sense of responsibility)
Goes straight to the whole 'ashes to ashes' without the image of decomposing loved ones trapped underground
A Zombie free world
Cons: Somebody might decide the urn looks too pretty and put granma's remains on a mantle

your loved ones will save a lot of money with a cremation versus a regular burial.

My mom was cremated...my father wants the same..as do my husband and myself...Not a big service...maybe a small get together after..but NOTHING huge with the 50 car line to the cemetary..
Personally...I think this is the way to go..I have my mom's ashes and I don't have to go to the cemetary to pay respects to her. She didn't want to have the added expense of the herse, cemetary, tombstone..etc...My father rented a casket for the veiwing before the cremation...it was a nice way to say good bye~
Sorry..but after I'm dead...how the living are affected..isn't a big concern of mine..

I'm thinking I'd rather be cremated. That way they can take my ashes to my favorite place. Also my kids will have more insurance money to spend without the big expensive funeral. They'll think of me every time they pay bills or go shopping. I just want a shout out or a "thanks mom" every once in a while. This way even though I'm gone, I'm still taking care of them.

I would prefer a burial just because that's when it really hits me and seems final.....but I think eventually everyone will be cremated. There just isn't enough room to bury everyone!

I think cremation is the way to go so to speak. I don't want my body buried in the ground. Even though my spirit won't be in that body anymore & my spirit probably won't care if someone just throws this shell over the back fence.

Cremation all the time, have this worry about been buried alive, and ruining my good nails scratching at the coffin lid, does not bear thinking about!

I want to be cremated! I look after my body, I take care of it! And I'll keep it from worms, decomposition and decay! ... And I'd prefer be cremated with H.I.M. song "GONE WITH THE SIN" =)
