I have been running my installation for several hours now (12+ hrs.), and it is still not finished. It is just moving very slow.

It depends on your system configuration. but 12+ hr says some thing seriously going wrong. Could be bad hardware.
I have p3 800 Mhz with 512 MB ram, which took only aprox 30 min to install.

The base install of the os itself only takes about 1/2 hour for me.

If you are installing it from the Internet, the time will depend on your Internet speed. Dial-up can take hours. So be patient. If you interrupt it, you run a good risk of totally corrupting you Windows install.

It takes about 45min to install XP SP2 on my computer, P4 3GHz, 1GB ram, IDE HDD. I have also tried on a P3 1GHz it takes about 1 1/2 hours. What kind of configuration are you running on? And also check your hard drive, isit making clicking noises? if it is then it is faulty.

It shouldn't take more than 45-mins to an hour depending on the computer's speed.
It might be time to replace your CD-ROM drive or your XP disc is scratched up.

depends how fast is your computer. on system that can handle xp well, about 30 mins.
if it takes you that long, either installation has failed or your computer is too slow (or you're doing something wrong, but i imagine this is not the case)
try again.

mine took about 6 hours with a fast dsl connection, but my computer never really slowed down

when we put it on our laptop it took 23 1/2 hours total

i did it yesterday it took about half hour, but i have a supercharged 508 horse 8 cylinder in it
