Usually the term refers to those born between Jan 1, 1946 through Dec 31, 1964, although some definitions may vary the date slightly. A lot of babies were born during this post-ww2 era as soldiers came back from their war service, got jobs, got married, and women stopped working in defense industries (to make room for the guys?) and settled down in the 'burbs and raised families. This resulted in a notable increase in births during this period, hence the use of the term "boom".
