Yes, as a former classroom assistant, I can tell you that, with young ones especially, they have forgotten most of the things they have learnt over the long summer and we ended up spending a lot of time when they came back going over old ground! A waste of their time and ours, so the summer holidays should be much shorter.

Yes i do. Children already get enough days off during the school year. The summer holidays need to be limited to a month and a half.

Well, where we live they have three months, it is a long time they get bored, but it's very hot here in summer, it's not much fun having to go to school when the temp is usually 35 and over. But yes the summer hols are too long, they should give longer Christmas Hols instead, there's much more to do then.

When I was between 10 and 18 they seemed far too short - when my children were that age they seemed far too long.

Now my children have grown up I can take a balanced view and admit that I don't know.

They are seeming to get shorter and shorter. But the kids get way more days off during the year than we ever used to when i was in school.I mean spring break, christmas break, fall break, summer break.Days off for this or that, its not the summer,i think there are too many breaks during school.Good luck God bless:O)

too long for parents to have to entertain kids that should be old enough to entertain them selves and worry what there doing while we are at work, and to try and find child care for nearly 7 weeks, no wonder so many parents of young children dont work its not that they dont want to but they cant find a job to fit round summer hols, many people dont have a family network for help and many grandparents are still working full time themselves

No way!!! They are definitely not too long. If they can't rememer the things they learnt the year before because of a couple weeks break, then they're not going to remember it at all.
