Chikungunya is a virus and, as such, there is no treatment and no medications. It simply has to run its course. They tried to make a vaccine to prevent people from getting it but could not come up with one that was effective.

Also, they did try treating chikungunya with chloroquine but found that 50% improved, 50% didn't so aren't sure if the chloroquine helped or if those people were just getting better on their own.

No specific treatment. Treatment with the most promising results is chloroquine phosphate. Main drug: Chloroquine Doses: 250mg/day Treatment: Limit of further exposure to mosquito bites, stay indoors and under a mosquito net. Supportive care with rest is indicated during the acute joint symptoms. Movement and mild exercise tend to improve stiffness and morning arthralgia, but heavy exercise may exacerbate rheumatic symptoms.
