Here is a possible solution taken from the ChessMaster support site.

First, make sure that all of the Chessmaster 10th Edition disks (especially the one giving the problem) are clean and free of fingerprints, marks, and smudges. You will want to wipe the underside of the disks carefully with a clean cloth to remove any marks.

Then go to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Local Security Policy

Find the line:
Devices: Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on user only

If this is enabled, set this to "Disabled". Reboot the computer. Temporarily disable any other software that's running (anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc.) try to re-install ChessMaster then install the patch.

If this does not help, open your registry (Start->Run->Type: regedit and click ok). Make sure the following registry key reads like this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon - AllocateCDRoms must = 0 (zero)

More info can be found here

Don't forget to download the latest patch from here: http://www.chessmaster.com/us/patches.php

I also recommend you try playing free online chess at http://www.freechess.org You can also download a free interface at http://www.babaschess.net for a positive chess experience. It's all free and you won't see any pop-ups or ads.

make sure the cd isn't scratched. If you have a anti virus program, disable it until you install the program. Also, disable any other programs running. Press cntrl, alt, del, go to task manager, processes and disable programs running under your user name, then try to install game.
