You are the client at a salon, a stylist give you recommendations but ultimately his/her responsibility is to give you what you want. I have seen blonde on people who really shouldn't have it, and others that I thought would look horrible actually look pretty good. You do what makes you feel good, not what other think will make you feel good. But if you do decide to go blonde, PLEASE do it professionally. My best friend has owned a salon for over 15 years and I cannot tell you how many horror stories I have heard of people with darker hair trying a Do-it-Yourself blonde kit. It doesnt work. There is ONE product that will work though. Its called "Quick Blue" sold at Sally Beauty Supply. Remember that bleaches use oxidation to lighten the hair, so the more you leave it one the lighter it will become, but it can ruin your hair very easily. Again, please do it at a salon. Also, ask the stylist for different shades of blonde. Maybe the "Gwen Blonde" is not the shade for you, but a more toned down shade will look fantastic.

I think they are telling you this about your skin tone because people with cool underones looke better with blonde hair.
Ya know what, if you want to be blonde gor for it. If you can't find a stylist to do it for you find a friend that will. I have never had a stylist colour my hair. I just use Garnier Nutrisse. I have actually had stylists tell me that I'm not damaging my hair anymore than someone that gets it done professionally. The thing being since you have dark hair naturally you will have to strip the colour from your hair first by using a bleaching product.
And if you go blonde and you decide you don't like it all you have to do is redye it

You can go blonde just make sure that you get the right tone for your skin, also if you hair is really dark it may really damage your hair even if a stylist does it, all that bleach can really take a toll. So find a good hairdresser that will work with you and be honest with you about what can be done. Good Luck!!
Also you need to consider that you will ned to keep up your roots and that is an every 4-5 week deal so please consider that also.

With the skin tone you have right now...(if that's you in the pic)...I think Gwen Stefani blonde would look horrible. But if you were to go to a tanning bed or use self tanner (i like jergen's natural glow!) you may be able to pull it off. Other wise just do it see what YOU think, if you like it good, if not you can get it corrected. My personal opinion though, I think you would look good with the color you have now just add some blonde highlights!

Why not use highlights and each time you go to the salon get even more put in etc. This way you can slowly go blonde and the colour wont look so harsh. Highlighted hair can looks so much better than plain blonde if done correctly

Try a warm blond/auburn, about a level 6.
Otherwise try a product be Garnier. Crystal Summer hair.
It will make you're highlights appear in the sun, or under a hairdryer.

I've had blond hair and I have cool tones, brown eyes, and dark brown hair; I looked like 12 year old version of Shakira. If you're gonna dye your hair, my advice to be careful. Bleach tends to damage your hair, esp. if it's not healthy to begin with.

same problem!!
I asked hairdresser after hairdresser what they thought if i was to dye my hair ash blonde and they all made me feel stupid by pointing out all my bad points and why it would never look good on me. for a while i excepted it and realised i would never be blonde but one day in a rebelious streek i marched down to Boots and bought a wash in wash out blonde dye. Wash in wash out men't i could fufill my blonde amibtion in a quiet day inside and if it looked awful, fine! i can wash it out for the next day.
i loved having blonde hair and though it didn't look as bad as i ththought it definately didnt suit me, now i am a proud-not blonde-not brunnette, but golden haired girl ;)
Yes hairdressers normally know what they are talking about, but you shouldnt let them stop you from doing something you want, so i say go for it girl! or try out my way it really worked.
hope all works out for you-good luck!! xx

If your hairdresser says no then it's probably not a good idea.......but if you are really keen maybe you should start with blonde highlights, see how they go and if they look fine gradually start to get more highlights and make them thicker and thicker, so the transition won't be so bad and you can see if it is really for you!

A ton of people dye their hair blonde and look awful, you'll just blend in with the crowd.
