Do you go head first so that the water runs down your face, or do you go backwards to flow of water and let the water run down your back.

Backwards, head tilted back. That means you never get the shampoo or conditioner running down your face and irritating your eyes. Also that method seems to reduce the amount of knots after washing as the water runs straight through your hair and you don't really have to use any "scrubbing" movement to remove the shampoo or conditioner.

I've read that you're supposed to stand facing the water and look down but I tried that and I didn't like it but I did discover I have a fear of drowning. So, I always stand with my back to the water and tilt my head back.
