Apparently according to a medical reasearch I heard around 10 years ago, yes it is true that women have a higher pain threshold. The study found that in general, women tend to feel pain or classify something as painful before most men would, however the researchers found that the study group could then endure the pain for longer.

The researchers concluded that this was due to the fact that women give birth and need to be able to remain conscious under extreme pain for long periods of time.

As a man, I would say that most women probably have a better pain threshold than men. The world would lose its population if men had to bear children.
There are some men that have a high pain threshold or just the will to ignore the pain.

Men are not accustomed to pain like women are, if they had period pains & went through childbirth, they would cope with other pain more effectively. I think that the more pain you experience in life, the higher your pain threshold. I was beaten a lot as a child & my pain threshold is through the roof. My brothers have a higher pain threshold than any of the women I know, including me. I don't think it's anything to do with gender, it's all down to life experience. Women just don't like to complain, men do, and that is not a slur on men, it's just something I have noticed.

its very true 1. we suffer period pains(well some do)
2. we give birth
3. we get a cold and its a cold a man gets a cold
and its flu,and with flu they are dying
4 when ill we still look after the kids the house and
some still go to work

if the man gave birth to the 1st child the woman the second there would never be a 3rd.

Not really though the actuall answer varies by person. From papers i've seen it would indicate that as they grow up young girls initially have a higher pain threshold but as they reach maturity the thresholds reverse and men's are greater.

Attached a swedish paper on adults.

ask a woman and the answer is yes, she will say a man cant handle the pain of childbirth. ask a man and the answer is yes, he will say a woman can't handle a punch or having a knee blow out or numerous other things that we handle everyday. Overall, I think it is individual, some people just have a higher tolerance for pain, my man is a big guy, a man's man, but let him get a splinter in his finger and you'd think he was 2.

I'm bloke through and through! But am tempted to say your right?
But do we not have to question at that point, Animals have a pain threshold beyond any human acceptance? So.....are women more equal to animals? Which in affect is a step down the evolutionary ladder!!!!!!!!! I'm gonna get scorned for that!

No , I think it depends on how many endorphines someone can produce. Maybe they can produce more during childbirth but I've seen women cry when they've been bitten by an ant or stung by a nettle, come to think of it, I've seen some blokes do that too.
