White male applicants have to wait around two years before they have any chance of starting training. Asian applicants have to wait mere months. Before answering the question, consider this: if you made critical components for the airline industry, which recruitment policy would you prefer as a customer - "We only select the very best workers, regardless of gender or race", or "We favour applicants from (XX) racial group as employees".

Presumably they have looked into this and found it perfectly legal.
Situations exist elsewhere where people are guaranteed an interview from minority groups (I have seen this in local government) for instance.
I believe the umbrella term is "positive discrimination".
If you are not from a "favoured" societal group there isnt much positive about it though.

Whether it is morally right to favour race over suitability as a selection criteria is another question.
Personally I think the focus should be on equality and the elimination of discrimination rather than "we must have x percentage on this race, and y percentage of another, otherwise we are institutionally racist"

The world has gone mad. Theres so much messing around the race issue, mainly by white folks. White folks are so scared of saying or doing the wrong thing in case they get called a racist. You're right, its not fair and if you wanted to push it you could have a case for racial descrimination. They don't necessarily need or want more Asian officers, they probably just have a quota to fill

Most large department have community programs. For these programs to work, they need bilingual officers that speak and look like those at target community.( for ex: We have MS-13 gang, but victims and witnesses won't talk to police. When they signed the Spanish officers to the area, the officers get better responses from community. This is a fact )
If you have large Asian community in your area, and they are short on Asian officers, they have to fast track those officers.
It's nothing to do with quota. Police is not a 'for profit company'. They are their to protect and serve the community.

Is it a written policy or a practice you have observed. If it happens frequently and you can find the facts to support your accusations. You can find the facts which should be available through an open records request. Even if it is not a written policy but has become a an unwritten policy then there is a chance for a lawsuit for discrimination. Federal law prohibits discrimination for employment based on ethical background, religion, or sexual orientation.

welcome to the politically correct governments.

As a manager within a dept of the Justice department I was to hire some new employees, I had one white applicat who had twice the qualifications, already trained in exactly what we were hiring for. But in three hires, i had to hire three minorities, two with no training or qualification iin our field what so ever.
Because they wanted my racial and minoirity quota to look right.

so the best people don't get hired because they are white in many cases. Discrimination at its worst. that we have to have less qualified people because of thier race.

comparing this with making airline components is irrelevant. The Police force presumably wants or needs more Asian recruits, so what's the problem with fast-tracking their applications?

I am afraid that disgruntled "ethnic" young white men will in time lash back at this sort of discrimination.
The same policy appears to apply in the area of broadcasting, particularly television - very few white, middle-class men there. If representation were in accordance with % of the population, you would see something very different.
