I don't know, but I like to believe. We all came from somewhere

Is there REALLY anything.
What does it mean?
God can not be real in the way a potato is real.
God is an IDEA or an IDEAL depending on your viewpoint.
People do not only believe for the sake of feeling more secure. How could it make them feel more secure, if they did not believe?
Probably there are many different reasons, and each reason could be given by an unbeliever for not believing. So even the reasons aren't the real reason.
It is probably a mixture of nature and nurture like everything else, but I would say that wouldn't I?
The believers will say because it is true, so it boils down to a matter of opinion.

Well, that depends.
Some people like the idea of a Sentient Being controlling everything because they either get to resign anything that happens to Him or find Someone to blame when things go wrong.
Other people, naturally distrusting religious powers, choose not to believe because it gives them a feeling that they control their own destiny and path or simply because they hardly trust anything except that which is invariably commonly trusted i.e. science and math.
Me? I look around and look at myself and I believe it all has to come from somewhere. Everything was so perfectly proportioned (before we decided to make a mess out of the earth) and the chances of a planet being inhabitable by itself are nearly insurpassable.
But of course that raises a myriad of questions which will take some time to answer. To believe in a God sometimes makes life more complicated rather than easily defined and secure because we have more to explain and understand about this vase universe.
In the end, the most important question you should ask is do I want the truth or do I want a truth that will make me feel comfortable? If confronted with evidence, will I consider it? Weigh it? Or throw it away because it doesn't fit in with my ideas of what the world should be?
Seek and you will most surely find. :)

How did the universe start to exist? How did the various galaxies form? How did the solar systems form? How were the planets formed? How did life start? How come you are able to ask this question? We all know the science behind all this but who is the one behind the science and the various forces in interaction. GOD.
No one man will ever comprehend GOD in totality.
Man in his ignorance has totally misunderstood all this. Yes you are correct to the extent that man has chosen to believe certain truths and deny others. This is the cause if all the strife.
Does this make you feel more unsecure?

You are absolutley right. There is no god, just have a look at the ten commandments and u can see its all a load of rubbish.
god obviously if existed, then has no problem with
child abuse be it neglect, physical abuse, emotional abuse (this includes denying teenagers affection and calling them filthy wicked and dirty for tossing off or fingering selves, trying to get boy and girl friends and being sexual and loving), and sexual abuse...
Rape no commandment there
Sexual organ mutilation on children
all of which are aided by the pure rule honour thy mother and father... without any exception its a licen to abuse...
dont see any problem with dealing crack, heroin or other 'serious and no positive effect' drugs (ie unlike ecstasy if used right to make people hug each other and be nice)
No problem with racisim, sexisim, homophobia... polluting the environment, unneccessary cruelty to animals so diembowling animals for pleasure when you dont get it from warm affectionate sex is apparently ok...
Its okay to be abused but not ok to kill the abuser to stop it...
Its acceptable for people to have stuff very dancerous to themselves or others... ie if a 10 year old kid spent his pocket money on a 5 inch motar firework (ie large display ariel firework works like a cannon with a 5 inch cannon ball)... or a large knife or solvents...
that apparently is acceptable but taking said item off them ie stealing is wrong...
Being in a bad marriage is good as divorce is considered bad and coverting a house if your homeless is bad...
Keeping sabath day is holy... remember that when you need a doctor on a sunday
or idolisim is bad... so what you call god and crosses...

No, I didn't study Christianity or get raised in any faith, nor was I interested in it in any way, but one day God opened my eyes to His presence, it's a longish story, and I've never looked back. Wasn't brain-washed at all, just had an experience I couldn't deny or walk away from. There are a million excuses for not believing in God, but only one for believing it: because it's true.

The latter of course. Too many wars based on religion to suggest anything else but the fact that god does not exist. Is there a higher power than ourselves? Most likely. Does it micro manage our lives? Not a chance.

People who like to believe in a god do so because they have blind faith. They have been brainwashed into believing all that cr*p from a very early age (unless they are of the born again persuasion, in which case run for your life if you ever meet one as you'll never get away). My 21 month old daughter sucks her thumb for comfort - the god botherers believe in a mythical being - you work it out.

It all depends on what you want to believe. Christians believe in God, Buddhist believe in Buddha, Islamics in Ala. In the end it dosen't matter what you call it everyone wants to believe in something. If you are unsure for yourself I would say that just believe that there is something. But for sure no one could tell you who or what it is.

Hush child, you need no fairy stories to help you sleep.
The monsters and the fairies only exist within the boundaries of your imagination.
The human imagination is a blessing and a curse, it has the scope to ask fantastical questions and has the audacity to come up with a fanatical response...
