Cut on meats, eggs, cheese and butters with high cholesterol. Avoid fried foods and be moderate on your bread consumption too. Eat a greater variety and more vegetables, fruits and seeds. Do some regular exercise. Jogging is good and doesn't demand too much from you, or walking at least half an hour every day, that wouldn't do you any harm either. When you feel like being a couch potato, don't be. Get busy with something that requires you to move.

What most people don't understand is that diets can't do anything if you don't keep them going. If you engage on a healthy diet it will do you good, but it won't last forever unless you keep it up. If you go back to unhealthy foods and junk food and stuff like that you'll be out of shape in no time.

Of course I don't have any such problems since I'm a vegetarian.

You shouldn't try to loose weight fast. I'ts unhealthy. You should instead focus on loosing weight slow, and keep it there. Most "loose weight fast" diets simply mean that you more or less stop eating. This is not a healthy habit to learn, nor a healthy way to loose weight. And certainly not something you can keep doing forever to hold your weight down.

Since you are 13 years old, you are probably not in control of your own diet. So you need to talk to your parents if you want to change it. Be scientific! Use nutritional tables to count every calorie. Get the rest of the family involved. Your body is conditioned to store away excess nutrition as fat. Reversing that tendency is not going to be easy!

It's important that you get a healthy well-rounded diet. This means a well balanced diet with enough fat, carbo, protein, vitamins and minerals. In the long term, you can't live off powder or citrus-fruits or whatever these loose-weight-fast-diets say. And it's the long-term that's important. If you loose fat, you don't want to gain it back again the next week.

Increase your physical activity. You'll have to find some activity that suits you. It's harder to get exercize when you're fat. Running hurts. Nobody wants you on their football team. You may not like others seeing you in a swimsuit. Get over it, and find something you like doing. I like bicycling. You get around, you get fresh air, it's healthy, low impact, and I already have a bike.

But don't just overdo one activity, try them all. Hiking is excellent! You have to carry your own food, so it kind of reduces food intake by itself. If you don't have any parents or friends that like hiking, try asking about local clubs in a local sports shop. I wouldn't recommend weight training at your age, but a few push-ups each morning never hurt anybody. You get the idea...

I have alot of experience with this sort of thing. I run a support group for people with eating disorders.

If you can, go to a dietician. Avoid fad diets by all means as they can only do harm and are generally not healthy at all. And excercise! Keep active. eg if you have the choice of taking the stairs/lift - take the stairs. Small things make loads of difference - in every day life.

Also by eating 5 smaller meals a day instead of 2/3 big ones, your metabolism increases. Dinner should be your lightest meal of the day and not eaten too late.

I've tried the "Eat right for your blood type" not to lose weight but for health reasons, and I've lost weight without even trying!

Hope this helps. Keep your chin up!

Hi Yvette.

To be blunt, there is no fast way to lose weight. The BEST way to lose weight is cut down on junk food (sweets, chips, soft drinks etc.), eat moderately (it's ok to eat some of those things i mentioned above and stuff like hotdogs and burgers and stuff but in moderation), and get a healthy lifestyle (exercise once a day - don't just sit around the house).

Most of all (i know this sounds so cliche but its true), be happy with who you are and just be yourself

Hope this helps
