Don't allow her to sleep during the day, keep her active so she is tired when she is put down for the night. Give a nice warm bath before bed, a warm drink and a nice cuddle and story. She may be waking because she is thirsty for water and not hungry for milk. I would also try placing lavenfer in her room, this is very good for inducing sleep. Best of luck.

Does she go to daycare? This is what u can do, Wake her early in the morning @ 8:00, 8:30 am , Let her eat breakfast and watch some type of learning channel for kids. Let her have a snake abt 12pm lay her down for a nap she should awake about 2:30pm when she wakes be active with her let her stay up until U lay down to sleep make sure whatever u do the whole time she is up. Really just make her sleepy bath her really good before u feed her. Put her to sleep and she should sleep through the night but u have to come up with a routine or it want work whatever u decide. Good Luck

Wow that's a lot of waking! I'd say first of all get a hold of her routine...

1. no naps after 4:00 p.m.
2. make sure her tummy is satisfied before putting her to bed.
3. when she wakes in the night alternate water with the milk to see if it's just a thirst thing. If she refuses the water than she's playing ya! Time to let her cry don't worry about the 4 year old. It's not like she has a job to go to in the morning and she can always take a morning nap.

Every baby is different.
Borrow The Baby Whisperer from the Library and read it.
She has a spacial chapter on sleeping.

One thing she said is that if you feed the little one well before going to bed you shouldn't need to feed her at night.
Just pat her back in her crib to get her back to sleep.
If she seems to be vying too long then until you can get her nights straight you may want to move the crib to another room. or the 4 yr old can sleep in the living room for a few nights. She will probably love that. Just make sure that she understand that it is temporary. Maybe even set a date and point to it on the calender each day.

She doesn't sleep through the night because she has you trained to bring her what she wants (attention). A ten month old shouldn't need a "drink" of milk, she may simply be hungry since many are still breast feeding at this age. You are feeding her properly? Have you talked to your pediatrician? She/he is going to be your best resource.

If all is ok on the nutrition front, you are simply going to have to go through a process of allowing her to cry, waking up her sister (tell her to go back to bed), and she will be "retrained". Also if you are napping her during the day, you might want to look at how long she is napping because obviously something is waking her up.

Feed her well during the day and before going to sleep.
Start pushing the feeding a bit later (I mean the first moment she wakes up at night for a feeding) . try 10 minutes each time and start pushing this a bit later.

Or if she uses a pacifier give her the pacifier to see if she is going to fall back to sleep. If she insists feed her following the same pattern. Each time a bit later.

Read a book. There is a doctor who is the leading expert on children sleep patterns. His book is: Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child by Marc Weissbluth. It's ok not to know what to do, you don't give birth and know exactly what is right for your babies but let the experts help you. He suggests more naps (which I didn't think was intutive but helped my baby sleep through the night from 7:30-6am)

Try giving the baby a bottle of chamomile before going to sleep. Its a natural calming herb so it will not harm the child.
