I fully agree with Jenni's answer, but would like to add one detail: Jesus DID go to Hell -- but not in the way you think.
First of all, let's clear up a common misconception: "Hell" is actually a place where only unbelievers go; it is correct to say Jesus went to "Hades" after death. Hell is part of Hades, and is in the same location, but separate. (Think of it this way: If Hades was a country, Hell would be a State.) Now read the parable of "The Rich Man and Lazarus" beginning at Luke 16:19 -- note there are three places mentioned here: "Abraham's Bosom," a chasm (referred to as "a great gulf") and "torments." All three are parts of Hades; only two parts are unpleasant. The chasm is the same "pit" mentioned in Revelation where Satan will be cast for 1,000 years. At this time, the chasm is empty.
Now, Read Acts 2, which quotes from Psalm 16:
25 For David says concerning Him:
‘ I foresaw the LORD always before my face,
For He is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken.
26 Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad;
Moreover my flesh also will rest in hope.
27 For You will not leave my soul in Hades,
Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.
28 You have made known to me the ways of life;
You will make me full of joy in Your presence.’
When Jesus went to Hades, He entered Abraham's Bosom, where the spirits of those who earnestly loved God during their lifetimes were. Some Jewish people even today believe in this concept, calling it a kind of "waiting room," where their existance is paused until the Messiah comes; they believe Messiah will free those in this "waiting room" so they can be with God. Messianic Jews and Christians believe this is exactly what Jesus Christ did when He decended to Hades. Having freed these "prisoners" and unloaded His sin, He returned to earth and was seen by Mary at John 20:17. He then ascended to Heaven, where He sits at God the Father's right hand. As far as we know, Abraham's Bosom no longer exists. The spirits of believers now go to Heaven, to join those brought there by Jesus Christ.
I hope this helps. Peace and love in Jesus.

Close but not exactly; Jesus was punished, crucified and died for our sins so that we may live eternal. However, he did this as the Son of God one whom was acting on behalf of the Father. Jesus also arose from the dead, and shortly thereafter ascended into heaven where he sits at the right hand of God. Read your scriptures slowly, let each verse sink in. Start with the new testament to get an understanding of how Christ came to us and why, How he departed and returned and why.
I would also suggest that you visit a non-denominational Christian church in your area and attend some bible classes. You sound like you have a real genuine interest and you should gather all the information you can.
If I can help with anything else regarding the scriptures you can reach me at my web site www.freewebs.com/biblestudywith-pastorrich/ the last page of the site has an e-mail contact also there is a blog page. The lesson or message is changed every Monday. God Bless and Love you

Okay, here it goes plain and simple(maybe)...when He was crucified, He took on all the sins of the earth the past sins and the present sins of the time. True, He went to hell...He did not stay there though He past right through leaving the sins of the world there. so we as christian could go to heaven and meet Him and the Father when our number is called. He then came back to earth for three days and He told the disciples not to touch Him. on the third day he ascended to heaven to sit at the right hand of the father.

Heaven and Hell are part of our life on earth, here and now and not after we die. Rabbi J. has passed away long time ago. Since then the world has not become a better place - your and my sins have not been turned into good. And looking at the wars and problems we are facing - no religion is helping us really. Actually some religions do quite the opposite...

Right now, Jesus is at the right hand of God, interceding for us.
Yes, he took on the sins of the world, and while he was hanging from the cross, he felt the separateness from God, in which He cried out "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?"
He cried this, because since he had all our sins upon him, God could not face him, because God is sinless. Jesus moral self felt the death and aloneness that dying without God feels like.
The wages of sin is death. Jesus paid the price for our sins by his sacrifice. But Jesus is half man and half God. Through the power of the Holy Spirit and he defeated death, arose from death, and ascended into Heaven.
I know it still must be hard to understand. That's where you go on faith.
This is a promise to you. If you accept Christ as your savior, turn away from your sins (sin is anything in your life that takes you away from God), He will come into your heart. And you know what will happen?
The Holy Spirit will reveal to you the answers. What confuses you now, if you accept Christ, your eyes will be opened. Things you don't understand in the Scriptures right now, when you accept Christ, all those things will become clear to you. The fog will be lifted.
I know this. Others who don't have Christ in their heart will tell you differently, because they are in the fog.
Trust me. I've been where you are, and not so long ago, either.

No he's not in hell. As a matter of fact hell is refered to as the common grave of mankind, so in that case he did go but only for three days. He was resurrected by his Father, Jehovah, and then he was on earth for a while going around to his disciples and proving to them that he was the risen Christ. Then he took some of his disciples on a mountain where the transfiguration took place. That is when Jesus went up into heaven and took on spirit form (because flesh and blood cannot enter into heaven) and presented the value of his ransom sacrifice to his Father so that we here on earth can be redeemed and have the opportunity to gain back what Adam and Eve lost which is everlasting life ina Paradise earth. So Jesus right now is ruling in heaven (under his Father's direction of course) until he is ready to render judgement upon the wicked and have his sheep separate from the goats. Then begin his Thousand-Year Reign as King during which period mankind will be brought back to perfection.

Jesus, being perfect, was the sacrifice sufficient to render Hell unneccessary. No, He isn't in Hell. Some believe that during the three days between His death and resurrection, He was there, but I cannot find anywhere in the Bible that explicitly states this. It is my understanding that Jesus is currently at the right hand of God in Heaven, awaiting the time when He will return to this world and gather all His children. Feel free to email if you have anymore questions; I don't have answers, but I'd love to help you find them!

First of all, Jesus died so that we may have eternal life in Heaven. In a nut shell, if you know anything about the bible, this is the easiest way to explain this. If someone was going to get hit by a car and you spared there life by giving yours, do you think you would go to hell for that? This is what it means to be a marter. Jesus Christ and God and the Holy Spirit are one in the same, the trinity. So, God is not in hell, nor is Jesus Christ. He sacrificed himself so that we may have eternal life in Heaven. Why would God send his only begotten son into hell? He died for us because he loves us. It's that's simple.

if he sacrificed himself to take the sins of all christians...
then.. in order to take our sins... he must be in hell right now..
(cos i don't think he'd be in heaven or on earth to be able to suffer and take our sins.) - your talk actually made some sense...
you know what, maybe you are right

GOD created Adam and Eve as a perfect human beings .But due to sin ,they were made imperfect and all their generations to come were to die due to the sins committed! Since GOD created them and blessed their off springs ,HE wasn't happy of the punishment he gave them and also since HE is a GOD of justice and truth ,HE cant change laws as and when HE likes.So the only way to save us (HIS children) ,HE sent HIS only begotten son (PURE and PERFECT) to shed till the last drop of His blood to cleanse our sins. So that in the judgment day ,those worthy of resurrection will get his life back and will live in GOD's paradise again. Jesus took over the control of the world in 1914 ,he is ruling over the world ,our king and our saviour ,the chief of the army of angels ,seated at the right hand side of the FATHER and the time is close for the Armageddon.. You will learn about all these little by little when u read the prophet NUMBERS,DANIEL,ISAIAH and the last book of the BIBLE : REVELATION , describes in detail the last days (our present condition).. It may be complex in the beginning to understand but never give up!!
Really happy to see someone interested in BIBLE study! Hats Off!
All the best!
