Okay, this is not a drug and it's in no way addictive. With that said you can buy a natural root in capsule for called "valerian root" check it out on the internet. It makes you relaxed and sleepy within about a half hour to an hour of taking it. The amount of capsules you will need is different for everyone depending on weight, lifestyle, how much caffein you consume regularly ect ect. I drink a lot of coffee so I take two to four if I'm having trouble sleeping. I know people however who only need one. It's never let anyone I know down and it doesn't cause a druggy tiredness. You take it and chill, watch a little t.v. or read a book and then after a while think "I'm a bit tired, think I'll hit the hay" and go to bed. A GODSEND for those of us who have trouble winding down at the end of the day and falling asleep. I know the relaxation part is the best in my case because my problem isn't becoming tired... I'm always tired hence the coffee. My problem is turning off the days stresses and thinking too darn much. Give it a shot. You can find them anywhere natural herbs are sold. I get mine at the grocery store where the vitamins are sold.
Good luck to you from one insomniac to another!!!

Routines are really good. Get up at the same time every day, don't have lie-ins at the weekend, or when you're not at work, and try to go to bed at the same time every night.

It's also really important that you associate your bedroom with sleep. If you do other things in there like watch TV, read, or do homework, then your mind will associate the room with being awake and you will find it harder to sleep.

If you don't fall asleep within 30 minutes get up, otherwise you're associating being in bed with being awake and anxious. When you get up, read for a while, watch TV or just generally relax. Go back to bed when you feel sleepy.

Try these techniques for about a month. If you find you still can't sleep you should go to the doctors because there may be some underlying reason why you're not sleeping.

Good luck and try not to despair - I suffered from really bad insomnia from age 4- 20 (sleeping between 5minutes-2 hours a day). I'm now 27 and manage to get 5-8 hours sleep a night!

Exercise early in the morning,
only drink caffine before lunch,
eat a tsp of peanut butter and drink a glass of milk an hour before bed and RELAX, read a book or watch TV, anything that gets your body ready for sleep.

that's an awesome question.... because i have that same problem... i can fall asleep easily during the day... but night time rolls around and i'm not tired

and working up just before bed isn't a good way... because it releases some stupid endorphins in to your blood that actually keep you awake lol
