christians believe unbelievers are going to an eternal lake of fire!!!. It is completely rational that people who believe that doctrine are going to want to 'help' unbelievers away from such an eternal torment. You cant exactly expect them to believe in an eternal damnation , but ... not really make a big deal out of it can you?
So christians will try to convert people because they do care. I am aware christianity is crap, but can still understand what they do. I use to be one
Any christian that does not try to convert non believers one way or another isnt one that truly takes the doctrines seriously.
Im atheist and i would have more respect, so to speak, for a christian that actually believes christian doctrine than one that does not. The same for any religious person

Most of the people in English-speaking chat rooms are from countries in which Christianity is the dominant religion, right?
(and Preacher, the U.S. is NOT a Christian nation. Read your Constitution sometime instead of spreading treason like this).
They come trying to convert because that's a part of successful religious belief systems. A religious belief system that teaches acceptance of other faiths is unlikely to persist in the long term. Successful religions are, after all, built around
- systems for attracting adherents
- systems for making adherents feel special and unique (no matter how many of them there are)
- systems for discouraging conversion to other religions
- systems for distributing the religion's beliefs with relatively few changes
Everything else is just the window-dressing. As long as a religious system has those things, the details (how it describes god, how it describes the afterlife, etc.) are relatively unimportant.

Good question. Most people in the West say they are Christians. Most of them don't go to church or read the Bible. Nevertheless, if you asked them what religion they identify themselves as, most will say Christian. Some would be honest and say no religion.
Others like me would say what religion they are (I'm a Baha'i) and to find someone who is open to thought that doesn't follow the Christian paradigm.
Yes, Christians believe they have this God-given right.. no, this from God to promulgate their religion. Christians promulgate by telling people why they to accept Jesus, and that if they don't, they're going to hell. If they don't say this, you can bet they're thinking it. Either way, I dislike scare tactics. If they wanna attract people to their religion, they can share their own experiences pushing. Sharing experiences and telling people what to do are two different things. They can live a Christian life to be an example of good, because this is teaching by example. If the other person is sincerely interested in learning about Christianity, then the Christian can talk about their religion more. BUT ONLY IF THE OTHER PERSON WANTS TO HEAR IT. Unfortunately, many Christians don't care if you wanna hear it or not, they're gonna preach.

Only those religions who make it central to their teachings to convert all to their cause...
Which is why you see members of those religions converting others, because that's what their faith tells them to do.
Addendum: Why to people keep insisting America is a christian nation. It's not. God is not in the constitution, and we have laws banning government favoring one religion over any other (the FIRST amendment).
A christian nation would have it's laws conform to christian beliefs. Prayer in school, requirement of being chrisitian in order to hold office, etc etc, like an islamic theocracy, only for christianity. Hell, the 10 commandments forbid any other religions aside from Judeo-Christian ones. A REAL christian nation would BAN all other religions except christianity. Now does that sound like America, to you? Yes, there are a lot of christians in America, but it is not a christian nation (and if we do our jobs, it never will be).

If I were to accept any religion other than that which accepts the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour, then I would be showing a LACK of faith, which I do not have. Others are just plain wrong.....

Because those who made and those who occupied chatrooms are christians! Simply use the facility to spread christians.
I am a Buddhist. Sadly, even on this Yahoo things, the pro-Buddhist opinion of mine seems to be deleted away.
Damn those christian domination.

This isn't puzzling.
In an ALL FAITHS room... there would be LITTLE to talk about.
It would be like having a room for "all mechanics and all farmers".
The mechanics would have no clue about farming, and vice-versa.
Faiths are different because... THEY ARE DIFFERNT.
