If you walk past a homeless person in at the end of a bad day, they'd be lucky to get a dime. Yet put a dog in the homeless persons hand and you'll see the money fly out of pockets like rain.

Pretty sad commentary on humanity, isn't it?

I think it's because people perceive the animal as some "cute, helpless, fuzzy thing" and the person as the "lazy bum with a choice."

People don't realize the dogs are descendants of wolves and if left to their own devices long enough, can fend for themselves just fine. That's not to say that some of these animals aren't treated badly, because I'm sure they are, and that's a shame. No animal should be exploited or abused.

More often than not, it really IS the person who needs a hand. Not all homeless are that way because of choice. Yes, some choose to be homeless. And yes, some have made unfortunate choices. Most, however are victims of unfortunate circumstances - poverty, loss of jobs, mental issues, etc.

I help them whether or not they have a dog, but if he/she has a dog with them, then that tells you a little about that person. They may have nothing at all, but they share what little bit they get with the animal, and don't care just about themselves. I hate seeing anyone in that situation, and I believe whatever you dish out in life will come back to you later, good or bad, so I choose to help with what I can, and not judge them too harshly because I don't know why they are homeless. Life gives us all a kick in the pants sometime, some of us get kicked harder and don't get back up. People get laid off, women run away from abusive situations, or maybe some just make bad choices. They are not all drug addicts and alcoholics, so - why not help where you can? So I guess my answer is that people see this person as someone who cares about something more than themselves and they choose to help, but I'd help them out anyway.

Because people have free will and the ability to drag themselves out of a bad situation and get going. Many people get themselves stuck in a bad situation and decide not to do anything about it. I would probably be the same way. A dog does not have the same choices that a person does. Besides...dogs are cuter and nicer than most people.

Pets do not pick and choose if you are rich or poor.
Will greet you whenever they see you.
Children do not even greet their parents coming home after a day's work in the office while raising them up on planet earth.
Now who should we blame for the blunders and slip-ups with human errors in the creation of living human kind on planet earth?

The dog won't waste the money on alcohol, cigarettes and illegal drugs, moreover, the dog would be more truly grateful. To finish with, every man (and woman) is capable of taking care of themselves if they would just learn how. Domesticated animals are dependent upon us people to care for them.

because the homeless person CAN fend for themselves most of them just dont want to and take the easy way out by sitting and begging, the poor animal on the other hand cant and more than likely was abandoned by some moron or mistreated that is why it is homeless, i myself would chose and animal first anyday!!!!!!!!!!

i think its because they know that a human being can think and act for himself and has a voice to speak out if mistreated. Animals on the other hand dont and it is easier to love them i guess cuz they dont talk back either..lol!

Animals only have a few needs and are never demanding. It's easier to love a pet than a person.

the dog isn't likely to go buy beer and crack with your money, and the dog never had an opportunity to obtain a free public education and make the best of its life.
