YES:
The convention, worldwide,is that the body is buried "looking to the east" from the horizontal position of a burial, the eyes are imagined to be looking out beyond the feet (not over the top of the head). So the feet are at the East, the Head is at the West end of the grave. Graves are always in an east-west direction, and the tombstone/gravemarker is always placed at the head. (this is a worldwide convention - the only exceptions I've ever know are when the person who dug, or ordered the grave digging didn't know what they were doing).

BTW: If you are marking a grave to be dug. Only one marker is required for a standard size grave. You place the marker at the center of the head. The grave digger will know exactly where to dig from this one stick in the ground. The grave will be dug (eastward) of the marker.
Only if the person is unusually large, and the grave is not to be a standard size - are two markers required - for a very tall person who needs a longer grave, place an additional marker at the foot. If the grave needs to be narrower or wider than standard, mark the four corners.
In the USA, the standard size for a grave, if no additional instructions are given,or no additional markers placed: is 3 feet wide, 6 feet long, and 4 feet deep.

Traditionally, Christians (or those in Christian-tradition cemeteries) are buried face-up, feet to the east. This is because the New Testament likens Christ's return to the rising sun.

A notable exception are military cemeteries. In most, all headstones are laid out square to appear in straight lines regardless of the viewer's perspective, and face whatever direction was convenient for the layout. In some military cemeteries, stones are put in a circular pattern around a flagpole, feet toward the flag.

Yep! Facing the rising sun. That's so on Judgement Day all those dead folks wake up early in the morn. A long time ago(round the time excommunication was practised) non christians were buried facing the west.

Interesting fact. I don't know if it's just in South Africa, but if you are a convicted murderer you get buried the other way around, facing west.
