Who told you the military is fair. Im a military spouse and I have to put up with a lot of crap everyday and still life goes on. All the army cares is to get the job done. NOw dont get me wrong I feel for you and your family, i would hate tob e in that situation but believe me, getting mad is not going to solve anything. You will still have to wait and Im sure its not going to be 4 month theyll probably be back before that. just support your man because its not his fault and enjoy Alaska if you could do that. I lived there three years and I couldn wait to get the hell out of there. At least youll have a little extra money that you probably didnt think you were going to have.

Please don't listen to the people who answered so rudely, they have no idea what they are talking about. Yes, it is unfair to the families and soldiers of 172d, however, that doesn't mean that it was the wrong decision. It may have been militarily necessary but you are still entitled to feel frustrated and angry. Unfortunately those feelings are not the only thing that higher level commanders must consider when making deployment and re-deployment decisions. I wish you the best of luck and hope that the additional months go by as quickly as possible.

My boyfriends part of the 172nd. It was unfair. It might have been a little bit easier for the soldiers and the familys to accept had there been more of a notice of their extension. Theres a great site to go on, where you can post whatever your feelings re on that. bringhome172nd.org. Please email me if you feel like talking. It will be good for both of us. I pray for our soldiers everyday. god bless you, and the other familys.

I know it sucks and you miss him, but since when has "fair" had anything to do with serving? It certainly hasn't in my experience. Needs of the Army _ALWAYS_ come before the needs of the individual. It sounds harsh, but that's the only way the Army or any military branch functions. If every unpopular task was met with a fair/unfair decision, convoys wouldn't get driven, foot patrols wouldn't be executed, aircraft wouldn't be properly maintained, etc. Every single one of us has had to suck it up and drive on at one point or another.
And as usual, robertozamorab, SESHADRI K, erudite, and others of your ilk--you're not only assholes...you're ignorant assholes. Try actually answering questions instead of hijacking them for your own half-assed political tirades.

Same thing happened to my brother. His unit was in Kuwait. They had handed over all there stay behind equipment and shipped the rest home. Most had only a few days worth of clothes for travel. And they had to travel back to baghdad for 3 months.
The cheney regime hates our soldiers. Praise them, exploit them use them up and the cut their veterans benefits.

If the Army wanted them to have families they would have been issued them. I hate it when military spouses act all high and mighty like they matter.
