I work in McDonalds and the amount of cheeky, abusive, arrogant and down right nasty customers we get is unbelievable. I know some people are going to try and be funny and say that McDs workers are stupid idiots anyway, but what right do these people have to treat us this way. I feel a bit better that I've got that off my chest.

I've seen some answers and one sticks out. Mercedesbent. You need to realise that I personally didn't chop down whole sections of rainforest. Everybody needs a job. Mine is serving customers to the best of my ability. And I asked why people need to treat each other with disrespect. Thanks to the people who answered sensibly!

It not only the customers who are nasty, the managers are supposed to be right a***s too. My friend worked in a maccy D's years ago and slipped on some spilt milkshake that hadn't been cleared up. She dislocated her knee cap but at the time was told she should stand up and walk about then she'd be fine and should get back on the tills. After being in agony for about an hour or so they finally believed something was wrong and said she could go to the hospital. They gave her a taxi voucher and a co-worker went with her. Being the gentleman he was he didn't stick around long, nicked the taxi voucher and used it to bunk off home. She didn't drive and was left miles from home with a big blue cast thing on her leg. This does have a happy ending though! A year later she successfully got £10,000 in compensation. Not bad considering she'd only been working there 4 weeks.

Well your question put all people in one group as if ALL people treat ALL McDaonald workers badly. This is NOT the case. Some people treat SOME WORKERS badly and those workers usually have it coming. I have been into one McD's severalt times and for some reason have gotten the same idiotic worker who ALWAYS messes up my order. I don't and never got so much as an I'm sorry from this idiot. So I have quit going there. I have been to other McD's and have gotten GREAT service. So NOT all people, be it workers or customers are in the same class.

They have absolutely no right to treat you like that. You are definately not stupid, you are doing a job and trying to earn a living. I can understand how you feel, I worked as a cleaner in a government building once and the workers looked down on me like I was lower than them and thick because of the job I was doing. It infuriated me as I knew that I was more intelligent than many of them. I left the job anyway and am now at university studying for my degree. It's so wrong that your intelligence is measured by the job you do.

I tend to agre with Rac889.
I applaud anyone who is prepared to work. Full stop. I always treat MacDonalds staff (and anyone else) with the respect they deserve. But it is a 2-way street. I've been served by gum chewing, spotty, bum scratching, less than pleasant individuals too!
I am then a little less pleasant myself and will take issue with them if they are discourteous. Some people just don't know any better, sadly.
Hope you feel better now!

I used to work in McDonalds ten years ago and it was the same deal. I mean it actually makes you lose faith in what people are like.
But I can tell you that during my time there I learned a lot about human nature and how to deal with people that has helped me in my 'proper' career.

Ignorance, pure and simple, that or lack of feeling for others.
Years ago someone taught me the stupid c**t smile. When you have to deal with people like that you just stand and smile at then all the time saying to yourself you stupid c**t. I find this works really well when dealing with difficult people.

Because they think we are idiots who dropped out of school, and all the other things you complained about. I worked there. All you can do is smile and thank you, would you like fries with that, how about a fist down your throat? Would you like it supersized? Have a nice day! And grin and bear it. Good luck!

yeah, shame them, i've worked in a restaurant too and experienced same thing...............what i can say is probably they are too hungry and can't think well, so they treat the staff so bad....and they thought we're being paid enough so they must get good service or they have the right to abuse us.sometimes they do it for fun, well i do believe in KARMA.

Because when you wear that uniform- you become part of the machine.
The machine that fueled the IRA. The machine that cuts up the rainforest to graze cattle, that gets slaughtered. The machine that still insists on using unnatural sources for their food packaging. So, no wonder people treat you like sh*t. Go get a decent job.
