Jesus was the best example of humility I know of, God coming to earth to live a life of service, die as a sacrifice for the sin of others shows great humility.

I would not call Jesus a door-mat kind of guy.

Saying the truth in an authoritative way is not wrong, the humility is saying that it is God's truth not yours. Don't give your opinion, tell what the Bible says. Don't use your own judgment, pray about it and ask the Holy Spirit to lead you.

I hope I show others Christ in me, I wish to show his humility and lift up the name of Jesus, not my own name. The way to do this is study his word, learn how to talk to others in a loving caring way.

If someone attempts to tear down what you know , understand that you are speaking with the right person. They are the ones you need to talk to, not those who agree with you. Those who are lost and hate the Lord and his Word are the ones who need to hear it the most.

Never show false humility, show the humility of Christ and his love , don't be afraid to speak strongly in the Lord, but in a loving caring way.

The only expectations I try to live up to is Gods, His opinion is the only one that matters. We are called to defend the faith, persuade men, and be able to give an answer to all who question the hope within us. While we are called to humility, knowing our salvation is not from us, but through the grace of God, we are called to be warriors of the faith. Being a "door mat" is not our calling or on the agenda.

I am by no means a "Door-mat"!! I am...a servant of my Lord and Savior...Jesus Christ!! I choose to follow what he wants in my Life to be an example that will Glorify God. I will make every attempt to "Walk away" from any sort of confrontation. But then again, because of my convictions, you won't find me some where, where I shouldn't be. With three years in Vietnam, I choose to let My Lord and Savior Guide me of where I am to go and what I am to do. I have no need to worry about what other people have in mind, their minds are controlled by My Lord and Savior. I have laid down my "Sword" so to speak, and instead have taken up my Bible. But to be blunt, try hurting my Family.

We as Christians are not door-mats for the non believers. They have to press their case against God, they don't believe in Him and when Christians talk about Him it fly's in the face of their beliefs. Christians have been persecuted for their belief in christ ever since He came to earth to teach us the way to the Father. If you truly believe in God then you should stand up for what you believe in and try to answer with sound Biblical answers and with a soft non abusive answer. The human in us comes out sometimes and we "get enough" of the constant attacks and irreverency that is thrown our way and as humans we sometimes lash back out. It is not the Christian attitude and I for one have to pray about it and ask for forgiveness. But I do defend my Lord and Savior and frankly don't feel like I have to "live up to" anyones expectations of me but His.

No. Turn the other cheek does not mean that we have to accept abuse from the unsaved. It means that we do not answer abuse with abuse. We do not give the devil ammunition to use against us. We use wisdom to discern when the devil is launching an attack and use the word of God to counter him, just as Jesus did when he was tempted by the devil in the wilderness. Jesus loves you.

Which part of

turn the other cheek
render unto ceasar that which is ceasar's and
he that lives by the sword shall die by the sword

Don't you understand?

Shouldn't Christians be trying to live up to the expectations of Jesus?

every particle in our physical universe, every structure and every being, is a shell that contains sparks of holiness

our task, whether we realize it or not is to release each spark from the shell and raise it up, ulitmately to return it to its original state

the way these sparks are raised is through acts of lovingkindness, of being in harmony with the universe, and through higher awareness

our opportunities to raise sparks are boundless

the choices we make for our activities, the interactions we have with our family, friends, neighbours, business associates, and even strangers...even the folks here on yahoo answers, the way we spend our leisure time, the books we read, the television we watch, the way we relate to food, everything in daily life presents sparks locked in husks awaiting release

I'm not Christian but never be a doormat to anyone. Stand up for yourself and you will get more respect for yourself and your religion.

I'm atheist so you may take this with a grain of salt.

I hate fundies but I do admire when people stand up for themselves even when they disagree with me. It would be boring if everyone thought as I anyways.
