People who have this operation actually feel they are the wrong sex from the very start of their development. There is actually a known condition that is diagnosed as Gender identity disorder (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender_identity_disorder ).This condition suggests that during the development in the womb a person can develop as one sex physically but another sex hormonally and/or mentally. So, is it possible that this "God" everyone talks about would accept a person who corrects this disorder by having the operation to be who they mentally and hormonally feel is who they should have been? And since people like to toss around the word "sin", would having this operation be a sin?
Why or why not?

For the record, I am not interested in getting this operation.I am a happy gay male.I wouldn't change that for anyone or anything. Not that I could if I wanted to.I already tried to and it didn't work.but I am curious about what people think on the sex change topic from a religious stand point.

Of course God (the all merciful) would accept this person. Don't know whether God would view the person as the sex they were born or the sex they became. Don't even know whether it makes any particular difference to God. I will say that the person who said you are supposed to work with what you have isn't considering that a lot of people are aided by medical operations & would have died much sooner or had much worse physical problems if left alone (but helping & not leaving them alone would be the only compassionate thing to do). I don't like to toss around the word "sin". I feel the situation is between that individual & God.

For any definitive answer you will have to ask God. I believe that it won't be a matter of God accepting what the person has done to "fix" their gender identity. Their soul knows what it is, and when they meet God they will be as he intended them to be. To me this means that if, as in your example, there is a hormone imbalance that confuses gender identity and the surgery to change gender is the solution the person chooses while here, that in the presence of God, either the hormone imbalcne and the surgery will be undone, and they will be their original birht gender without the confusion, or if the hormones were correct, God will complete all aspects of the physical change the surgery was intended to and the person will be as he or she was intended to be.
As to whether the surgery itself is a sin, I don't think so.

According to me, it's not sin. God only wants to be a good creature from everyone. But society can never accept this & make huge fun of him.
Actually,if u r a male but possess female habits(like attracted by some hot male) u can enjoy gay sex even, without telling to anyone.
In this way, ur desire will come to & can save ur prestige also...

Good Question, EasterBunny. Really, I don't know which the right answer could be.
But I try to make an analogy with the human soul. When we are born, we are born with sin (the Original Sin with which all humans are born, i.e. Adam's unobedience to God = inspired by the serpent, he decided to try the apple from the Tree Of Knowledge of Good and Evil => He begins to think / judge and acknowledge that he is naked => His body was judged by Adam's mind and he was found no good (Adam's got ashamed of being naked) => his body was damned to die = to lose the immortality which God has given him initially. Nevermind, he will physically die 900 years later, but the actual moment when death come to him the first time was the moment when he start to think = to judge).
So we are all born with sin. Those of us who are Christians beleive that they can be released from the Original Sin by the Sacrament of Baptism (Christening). What is Baptism ? Is when one states with LOUD VOICE his faith to God. So it is not enough to beleieve it inside your mind, it has to be admitted by the tongue, and moreover, it has to be done according to certain rituals, according to the Church one will devote. I am Christian Orthodox and our tradition is to christen the babies while they are still very small, so that they are released from evil the sooner the better. And because the baby child cannot state his faith to God because he/she cannot speak, therefore stand for him/her his/her GodFather and GodMother who say for him/her the ritual words, in front of the Priest, who stands for God. Actually, if you get the picture we have 4 sides : Baby Child, GodFather and GodMother, Priest and God. It's the Cross under which the Evil is damned.

I believe that God (and I believe she/he exists) does not care about gender. If we are 'made in God's image', then she/he must be both male and female. Gender is not the hottest topic. And yes, God will accept a person regardless of the gender they were born with, or the gender they will die with. Organized religions paint him/her such an uncaring light. Don't confuse their narrow-mindedness with the actual entity. They do NOT speak for my God.

You must first realize that we are immortal souls. We don't have a gender. We are not these bodies which perish; they are only garments which we wear for a while on this earth and then cast aside. So modifying our garments to suit our image is not a sin!

God does not see us as men or women. Do we see God as a man? We use a male Sir- name but are we to believe that God has male genitalia? God is beyond our understanding of sex and gender, and I am sure he sees past ours too.

I don't believe that God sees our physical bodies. He is really more concerned with our minds, and more importantly our souls. I think that as long as we live our lives as good people and don't intentionally hurt others that we are good with God.

God loves you and if you believe in God then you believe that it was all of God's plan to have the operation.

That's like asking whether Superman is stronger than the Hulk.
God is a fictional character. You can make up whatever you want about him.
