It's not necessary but strongly advisable to have one partition for the operating system and installed software on one hand, and another partition for your personal data on the other hand. This way you're less likely to lose data in case you have a problem with the operating system and end up having to re-install.

No it is not essential, You can have all your OS and Data at one place.
But for me it is most essential thing because I have a lot of colloection of songs, games, softwares, projects etc Which I want permanantly on my hard disk. So if something wrong happens to my OS I just have to format the partition having the OS. Rest all data would be safe.
So it is always recommended by professionals to have OS in different partion than where the data is stored

It is not necessary. However, some manufacturers partition their drives, using part of it as a back-up or recovery system. Acer is one of the companies that does it. It's really not a bad idea.

you must have 1 partition for the os (often whole drive size)
if u want more is otional
good idea to store photos, docs on seperate partion so u can format the windows partition without loosing backup stuff
