I appreciate all views on this - that is why I asked but I dont appreciate in any way a tone that is rude or superior (GitEmGang).

JRTs are absolutely fearless and have no concept of their limitations. A friend of mine used to work the rodeo circuit and he brought his JRT one day and let it off leash. The dog wandered into the bull pen, and when a bull put his head down to sniff the little creature that just wandered onto his turf the pup snapped on the bull's nose and went for a joy ride. Afterwards the dog walked off like he'd just had the best adventure while the bull was gushing blood from the nose.

Here's some 'official' info on JRT temperment -

They are intelligent, yet willful and determined. They can be slightly difficult to train and need a firm, experienced trainer. The Jack Russell can be aggressive with other dogs if not well trained and socialized. Some have killed or been killed in dog fights. Early socialization can help substantially moderate this trait. They have strong hunting instincts (stronger than your average terrier) and should not be trusted with other small animals. They like to chase and explore. Be careful not to let them off the lead unless they are very well-trained. Jack Russells like to bark and dig. They tend to get restless and destructive if not kept fruitfully occupied and well exercised. Jack Russells climb, which means they can climb over a fence, they also jump. A Jack that stands 12 inches high can easily jump five feet. JRTs are not the breed for a inexperienced dog owner. This is a BIG dog in a little dogs body. The owner needs to be as strong-willed as they are, or this little guy will take over. With the right owner this little dog can really excel, but is not recommended for those who have not had prior experience with terriers.

in my opion you would soon have to find a new home for a jack russel whether it be a pup or grown you have to have a big open area for these fiesty dogs that love a lot of exersize, they need lots of different stimulations to keep them happy and in top form unless you can take it to a traing program or flyball comps to see what they really can do they have an abundance of energy can you keep up with it thats the question and i dont think the space you will give it is enough

Nope,sorry.
If you don't do the research & learn that "small" doen't mean"soppy",you won't enjoy ANY breed, particularly an ACTIVE JRT.They are NOT "instant Eddie's"
NO dog is.
I watched a russel throw herself up a SIX foot fence,-w/a 18 in swivel over-hang!-until she GOT OUT!!! Ready for THAT???

I'd think about a Welsh Corgi over a Jack Russell. They are less likely to jump off the terrace and kill themselves.

Jack Russells are extremely hyper. The jump as high as your face and can keep it up for a long time. If you can handle that, you are suitable for a Jack Russell. GOOD LUCK!!
