Obviously, this is not a medical opinion. I do have experience with the Type II diabetes issue in my family.

I have heard that the most important thing is to get or stay thin. This is my own guess, but it seems to me that many cases of diabetes are probably just the result of people eating more than they can metabolize as their metabolism slows down with age. I know there may be some inherited differences with metabolism or something else, but it would seem to me that is less of a concern than what a person actually eats (particularly if he has inherited some tendency to not be able to metabolize it correctly).

In other words, I suspect if you checked with someone who has a good understanding of diabetes they would probably tell you that keeping your weight down (or getting it down) and eating a diet that has little or no sugar in it and limited carbohydrates is likely to be all you need to do. (I know plenty of people who did this and got already-diagnosed high blood-sugar levels down to where they should be without medication.)

Recently it came on the news that coffee may reduce a person's chances of becoming diabetic.

I've known people who have been diagnosed with diabetes and who get their blood-sugar down to normal. I've known people who have been diagnosed and who have not quite stuck with the right eating habits and who have been plagued with diabetes until they died.

I could be wrong about this because I have no medical background, but it seems to be that herbs and vitamins/minerals are often to boost the immune system, although I know there are some that are said to do things such as "improve liver function". It would seem to me if you wanted to try to find out if there's any herb or vitamin that is supposed to boost pancreas function that's what you would want.

It may also be worth asking someone who has the background and training in this area whether or not vitamins that are aimed at boosting metabolism for weight loss might also be of any benefit in boosting metabolism as it relates to the risk of developing diabetes.

What's your age? Diabetes type 2 usually starts after 40 years. it is a multifactorial disease...where you can take control of metabolic component. Eat healthy food...Stay away from food that are rich in simple sugars....These kind of food overloads your insulin system...With that it eventually burns out...called INSULIN RESISTANCE......also less saturatred fat....So make healthy choices...frequent small meals...instead of few large meals...Again the area of concern is insulin overwork.....And finally excercise regularly...
