my hair is curly.although the curls arent that small, they are just smaller then i would like them to be.
my friend suggested that i straighten then use curling tongs but that together sounds like too much damage for my hair.
anyone know anything i can try?

You might try a straightening balm or creme to help relax your curls a bit. If you use it right it will just relax the curls rather than give you stick-straight hair.

Surprisingly, old fashioned sponge curlers work well if you already have curl. I use hot curlers from time to time also. If you are worried about damage to your hair, try using a few drops of avocado oil a few times a month. Leave it on overnight and then use a conditioner in the morning to lock in the oil. Its natural and healthy for your hair. :)

Use a hot air brush on a low setting with slightly damp hair after using a smoothing lotion with medium hold.

The heat should give you nice wavish curls and the smoothing lotion will help keep the frizzies away.

The best way for me to think of is to get your hair done at a salon the way you want it to look and ask the stylist tips on how to replicate it. He/She will know the best way that won't fry your hair.
