I feel our country is losing our culture as a result of our country trying to 'overaccomodate' the large Spanish speaking population here. PLEASE do not get me wrong here, our country is entirely made up of immigrants and Thank God for that! What I see happening though, is that our Immigrants (legal or illegal) are not being 'expected' to assimilate into our environment, but we are expected to assimilate into theirs. We do not do this for Algeria, or Pakistan or even Italy. We only do this for PRIMARILY people from Mexico. The USA has a culture of it's own, language of it's own and 'it's own way of doing things'. And now, we are being expected to 'change his' in order to be politically correct? Is French going to be option 3 for our Tri-Lingual specialists, since Quebec is on our border also?

My real question here is, does anyone else feel we are 'losing' our way of doing things as a country, versus our desire to accomodate others? What do you think?

I believe that America has our own culture. I am concerned that we are diluting our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans..
We have our own culture, our Own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish , Portuguese, Arabic, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!

"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan.. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women.......on Christian principles.............
Founded this nation..... And this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it On the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as Your new home...because God is part of our Culture! Are you kidding? WE have a Culture!

Mr Native :)

I am more understanding of Natives that you would know at this time. My BF is Native and moving here from Canada, and I have been helping him find out the info he needs to get here. I have been doing massive amounts of reading and while I know I need to do more, I just wanted to acknowledge your statment personally because at least in part, I do understand your point of view! Best Regards!

Oh dear Rique, to make such assumptions is dangerous to your intellect. I was one of the few white families in my neighborhood and the only white kid on the bus going to and from school, my head is QUITE out of the sand and perhaps yours is in, since you made such a serious misjudgement about me. HAHA! You know what they say about Assume :) Have a good day!

I truly think that these answers are scaring me more than I would have imagined!

We do have cultures that have been incorporated and entertwined by the many cultures that came and made this country home (Enter Native North American Indians). Whether your relatives were English, German, Italian, Mexican etc.. these were all interwoven into what WE DO HAVE as a culture today.

In our effort to be PC with ALL, we have lost some of our most basic values already.. we can no longer have 'prayer' in school (even though I personally didn't care who you were praying too, or even if you used that as a moment of silence for your particular belief system). We have lost the ability to say our "Pledge of Allegiance" because it says the word "God". And frankly, anyone offended by God, as our country was FOUNDED by Christians, and even though I am Democrat, Christian with a lax belief system, this still amazes me! There is nada wrong with learning new cultures, without sacrificing your own.

You're right, America is made up of immigrants. Including the "Native Americans". If my memory serves me right, they came over on the Bering Straight Ice Bridge during the last ice age. The thing about America, or the U.S. specifically, is that we have always to this point been mainly of European decent and therefor better able to get along. No matter what anybody says, "diversity" doesn't lead to some sort of utopia. It breeds discontent, distrust, ect... It is said by these groups that this only affects Whites, in effect villifying us. But look at other racial groups. Do they on a norm associate with people of thier own color, or those outside it? Yet it is always the White Man's fault. We're trying to hold everyone down.

Well, I guess you should be concerned about losing America's culture, if America's culture is based on anti-diversity, hardheaded stubbornness, and a strong desire to NOT learn about other languages or cultures. God forbid you might have to listen to some spanish here and there, that would be AWFUL!

People in europe have all kinds of languages and cultures to adapt to, since all the countries are so close to each other and inter-travel is common. You should take a look at them, and see how cultured they are as a result of this diversity. What's wrong with that?

If you truly want to give America's its own culture back, I suggest you start learning Native American traditions and languages asap. Who decided that YOUR family's language and culture is the "original"?

PS. Despite your self-centered view, this is NOT a christian-based society. We should certainly not have prayer in school - prayer is something you do on your own time, not in a public school. That has nothing to do with immigration, it is based on the fact that we live in a secular society.

I totally agree with you. I am all for people making their lives better and if coming here does that for you, more power. However, I also think that when you move to a country you should acclimate yourself, not the other way around. If I moved to say France, Italy, or even China I would have to follow their rules. Not the other way around.
I don't know if it's more Spanish or not. I think it started out being that way here because at the time that was the most common, plus a lot of languages stem from Latin, such as Spanish, but it has grown. I've seen MAC machines and hell even billboards and businesses all kinds of different languages. It's not even translated to English.

America DOES have a culture, it is a culture of inventiveness, growth, personal freedom and so much more. Any one who says otherwise is to blind to see it. The culture of America is the fastest spreading culture ever known and yes..we as Americans are pandering to hyphenated Americans. Hyphenated Americans are nothing more than special interest groups doing their best to turn America into a divided country. Anyone who was born in America and tries to say that their culture is Mexican or Russian has a serious identity crisis. They don't stop to realize that those countries see them as Americans. There are differences between me and some of my relatives...some of them are Russian, but I am an American.

American culture has been on the decline for quite a few years now and it has far more to do with the acceptance and embracing of the hip hop culture than with hispanic immigration. The vast majority of the hispanic immigrants that i've met are hard working and good people who just haven't had the necessary time to adapt to "our way of doing things". The hip hop culture on the other hand is has gone a long way towards undermining even the most basic values of this country. For proof just look at those people who embrace it and see for yourself.

Well no sh!t!! I'm really tired of answering these same questions... Look up my YA history...

I mean .. really, I'm sick of it. I'm sick of being used, etc..

I'm about to do something really stupid-- however, I think it would wake up AMERICA.. and get the 250 million or so that oppose Amnesty, want English as the official language, make flying anyother flag a felony, along with not assimulating, and building the border wall rallied for a war against our elected officials--

I'm calling the 3rd party, "The Patriots." Against the Democratic-Republic..

Both parties tend to be underrating the issue-- and holding out....

I'm really getting disgusted over here. The U.S. governement is about to get a big *** whoopin' from the people if they don't get their act together.. I swear--- and I vow my allegience to United States of America... I swear, I will get the attention of 250 million patriots if amnesty is provided to these ...criminals.. And I will do so, by breaking the law-- and asking for a trial by jury...most likely a speeding ticket.

When the cop comes to my window and asks to see my DL, I will show him the 14th Ammendment, and then I will give him a copy of the U.S. Constitution. Then I will give him what he asked for, and at the court date, I will plead guilty, but also make known, I'm not paying speeding tickets or doing any time-- as I will be requesting amnesty-- and a trial by jury...

If I can get it up to supreme level, I will do it... And then I will tell the world how I feel about my country. I love it to death, but I hate the people standing behind it--

As... I am one, standing before it.

The only authentic culture America has is that of the Native American.
Restore their culture and their land to them and then start talking about losing your culture.

What culture? When did we pick an official language? There isn't one you do know that right? Which thing is it that you think we are losing that is exclusively American? I get real confused when people say these things. I'm not trying to be an A$$ here I really want to know.

America's culture is a huge melting pot now. The government bends over backwards to help everyone and appease everyone and try not to offend anyone and in the background we are all slowly being stripped of what originally made America great.
