Because it was thought that the ring finger on the left hand has a vein that runs directly to the heart.

The circular shape of the wedding band represents never-ending love. Wedding rings are worn on the third finger of the left hand because it is believed that a vein in this finger runs directly to the heart.

well it depends on your religion.
(the romans had started the band around the finger as symbol of being married)

the russian roman orthodox wear it on the right hand.

others wear it on the left hand..

some don't wear it at all (like my dad) bcz it bothers them during work (i rem my plumber took it off bcz he had lost a previous ring in the sink)... and my granma doesn't wear it bcz it bothers her during cooking (Anyone had found a ring in a cake?:P)

you don't need a band to remind you that you love a person, even if it is beleived that the ring is a symbol of matrimonial relationship. all you need is the band to be around your heart where every beat whispers the name and image of your loved one.

good luck.

Supposedly - there is a vien that runs from the third finger of the left hand, all the way to the heart.

There probably isn't - but they beleived it years ago and it stuck.
