Is it true you have to "Qualify" to take Holy Communion.

Is this right or would you want everyone to take it - irrespective of race or religion?

No-one has the right to judge if anyone "qualifies" to take communion. If you want to accept communion that is a personal choice.

It depends on the christian denomination. I am catholic and I understand that traditionally it can not be taken by those who haven't gone through their first communion. You must be baptized, educated and willing to accept your religion and accept that you agree it represents the body and blood of Christ. People who were not raised Catholic can take a class that will allow them to accept communion too, but it must be followed by a religious ceremony first. Asking why everyone doesn't take it would be like asking why everyone isn't baptized. Not everyone would agree that it was holy and blessed by the priest. That it was a symbol of Gods forgiveness of their sins. Although I have been to other christian services where they think everyone who wants to should have communion. Race never plays a part in it, but we all have freedom of religion, so I would agree with you that those who want to take it should be able to, those who don't probably aren't christian and thats fine too.

Holy communion is for the rembrance of the broken body and spilt blood of Jesus, so it's an irrelvant event for all but Christians. The Bible warns us to take it only if we are right with our Christian brothers and sisters so again it's not relevant for non Christians.

Yes it is right, as far as I am concerned, I wouldn't give a car to somebody who didn't know how to drive, and I wouldn't let people play with their soul if they didn't know what they were doing either. Take the classes, it only takes a few, and decide if you want to make the comitment to that religion, then enjoy your first communion!

In the C of E you need to be confirmed in order to take Communion. You have to go through a course of lessons before your confirmation.

Well, in my opinion, it is up to you to think of whether you are a qualifier or you are not. I think no one is throughly cleansed or pure. If you forgive from the heart, I believe that anyone can take irrespective of religion. It is not easy to forgive, but if it comes from the heart, go drink it !

To take comumion you are suppossed to be baptised and to have done your catacism and recieved your first holy communion, you are also supposed to be absolved from sin which means you should have first have done confession. This is what is taught in the roman catholic church. So i suppose if you believe all the latter then yes it should be be the be limited to the few who have done these things.

I agree with closed communion. You should not be allowed to take communion unless you are a member of that church.

No, only the true believers who welcome Jesus into their hearts "qualify". You are promising to follow in the ways of Jesus and in the ways of the Catholic church. If you do not believe, you do not participate in the rites of this religion, much as you wouldn't be entitled to participate in any other religion until you study it, learn it and accept it as your chosen faith.

That's not to say that you wouldn't be welcome at mass or anything but it's a sacrament and it's one of seven holy sacraments and you have to start with baptism (into the church) - (see below).

If you want to learn more about the sacraments etc. check out one site here:

Basically they are baptism, reconcilliation (confession) eucharist (holy communion), confirmation (affirming as an adult to accept Christ), marriage, holy orders (becoming a priest) and the annointing of the sick (forgiveness at your deathbed).
