No, to determine that you must have a Glucose level or a HgbA1c level or both done. Just tell your Dr. you are concerned about diabetes and ask him/her to order the tests.
Also, remember to fast before the test. A 12 hour fast is best.
Good Luck

You need to have the blood panel that shows the "fasting glucose" number...of course this means you have to have fasted (usually for 12 hours) before the blood was drawn. If your "fasting glucose" number is high, they usually have you do a glucose challenge test, where they have you fast, and then take glucose, and then do multiple blood draws to check your glucose.

Those finger prick testing modules will tell you if your glucose is high, but you can't diagnose yourself with one of those. Your glucose normally rises and falls, due to eating, not eating, stress, sleep, etc. If you did have access to a tester, and you were willing to do that prick test on a regular basis and keep track of all the results, you might be able to create a compelling picture for your physician, who could look at the results and interpret them. Of course, you have to make sure you are using the equipment properly. But one prick test alone wouldn't necessarily tell you whether or not you're diabetic.

The following tests are used for diagnosis:

A fasting plasma glucose test measures your blood glucose after you have gone at least 8 hours without eating. This test is used to detect diabetes or pre-diabetes.

In a random plasma glucose test, your doctor checks your blood glucose without regard to when you ate your last meal. This test, along with an assessment of symptoms, is used to diagnose diabetes but not pre-diabetes.

The count won't show, but you can get an A1c test and see what your blood sugar has been like for the last 120 days.

The CBC (complete blood count) does not measure blood sugar. There is a special test for that. Talk with your doctor.

Take a fasting sugar blood test. If your sugar is high while you're fasting, there may be something wrong.
