Can i legally drive someone else's car in the state of California (we live here), without me having insurance?

Can i legally drive someone else's car in the state of California (we live here), without me having insurance? and i have a vaild driver licence, and the owner of the car is a minor. and he has insurance for himself, and under that insurance anybody of his family may drive the car, so does that bit of information matter?

and i am NOT part of his family, just friends.

is anybody a lawer here? does anybody know for sure? i'm getting yes and no answers... >
