Speak very softly to him and spend lots of "hands on" time separate from play time. My pug was that way at first, but he's 4 now and I noticed the other day I was making that "shhhhhh..." sound for my nephew while I was rocking him to sleep and my dog came over and layed real close to us on the couch and fell asleep. Like he remembers I did that for him. He would always calm right down when I did that.

You didn't mention if he is neutered, but that usually calms down a male and makes him more docile. (You should have it done anyway, so there won't be unwanted puppies.) Dogs also tend to settle down with age, but, as others have suggested, give him gentle attention to help him along. Unfortunately, he may be this way naturally, as small dogs sometimes are.

I have a female chihuahua, and i think she is a demon from hell sometimes,
Some neighbors next door moved and left her, i think i understand why,
she is spoiled, moody, demanding , she is mean to my german shep, she wants her own way,
at night,(right now) SHE WONT LEAVE ME ALONE AT MY COMPUTER,
she comes up to me and cries, whines, (she sounds like a canary), She wants to sit in my lap all the time, she sleeps with me and burrows.. and in the night she will wake me licking my face to death,, and cries until i talk to her and pet her.
when it is feeding time,she looks at the dish, and runs away and hides, i have to beg her to eat, and feed her the first couple bites by hand until "her majesty" decides it is not poison,
i get real bones for her and the sheperd, and she steals the sheperds bones, and won't let her or me or anyone near them.. she growls, and is ready to attack.
let me see what else,?
I Have a desert tortoise, and when i feed her (the tortoise) THE DOG COMES AND STEALS HER FOOD,
Hher name is Cha Cha,, she needs to be with other chihuahuas, or an older person who is alone and wants a spoiled little lap dog.
did i mention one day,i could not find her, and searched everywhere, and had a couple friends go with me around the neighborhood, in the hot day and humid torture, and then we drove around, calling out to her "cha cha" AND I CAME HOME, SAD and feeling guilty for letting lher somehow get out, then she ame walking out of her hiding place yawning and stretching, and all the time, she heard me call her but she rarely comes when i call her..
SO ..WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE A LITTLE WIFE FOR YOUR LITTLE MALE CHIHUAHUA,, AND MAYBE THEY COULD MAKE EACH OTHER BE MORE CALM.? AND I WILL PAY YOU ANYTHING,,TO TAKE HER,,

i had the same problem with my lil girl chihuahua. what i do is either take her for walks or play with her in the backyard to help her release tension and anxiety. after hour(s) of playing usually she'll either eat and rest... or just rest on our couch. maybe that will help?

They are normally hiper dogs anyways, but you could talk to a vet and see if they suggest any pills or doggie drugs, dont laugh they do have them, I think we have them at petco... double check it is okay for your dog tho... just call and ask, its cheaper

"Awe, how sweet.!" Just give the little one time to adjust, if that doesn't help, try to look up on line, Remedies, for Hyperactive Dog Behaviour.
