The 20th century saw alot of progress in the areas of women's rights and human rights. Now remarkable women all over the civilized world are allowed to participate in important decision making instead of being regarded as house slaves and voiceless submissive creatures. Do you think Islam will ever recognize that some women are smarter stronger and more capable of doing things that were not long ago considered to be for men only?

I bet you've never heard about "Tansu shiller" "Binazir Butu", " Sheikha Husseina" ...
These are WOMEN head of states elected by the Muslim masses in Turkey, Pakistan Bangladesh, Indonisia...
I can't think of a Mulim country that had free elections without electing a woman. How come they din't find them worthy of being enslaved.
What does this tell you ?
Yep.
You're even an Ignorant that gets what ever crap the media tells him/her or a liar that doesn't get convinced no matter what.

No offense meant, but I really wonder when you people will get rid of your ignorance ..

I am from a Muslim country with more than 85% Muslims. Will it sound surprising to you if i say that both the leaders of our goverment and the oppostion are women and since 1991 we have been having only "Woman" country head? Will it sound surprising to you if i say my mother earns more than my dad and they are really okay with it? will it sound surprising to you if i say I have passed from the best business school of my country where there was an almost 50:50 ratio of boys and girls in my class? will it sound surprising to you if i say many of us, the girls are higher paid than our fellow mates who are men?

I dont wear Burkah, I have lots of male friends, I am still not married, I have the freedom to do whatever I want to do with my life .. its not only the story of me. it is the story of thousand other girls around me. This is how we are .. muslim women. We are also religious. We say our praers regularly, we follow our religion wholeheartedly - but that does not make us backward because Islam is not a backward religion. It is protective - protective in the manner that will only bring ultimate good for us.

And yes, you are wrong when you think our religion has asked women to be locked up in the house. It hasnt. Islam has provisioned for equal rights of men and women. However, things like free sex are not allowed and this prudency is only to protect us from the consequences of these things that we observe everyday. And we are happy that we are protected. we have no grievance.

There are fanatic people out there in every religion, arent they? Will you disagree if i say even the non-muslims still have problem with the women right issue? will you disagree if i say, still there are christian husbands who do not like their wife to have a career? male chauvinism is a part of the society and it is unfair to attach religious issue to it.

Please, try to see how muslims really are. Trust me, there is a bigger Muslim population out there apart from the few stories you know and the few pictures you have seen .. unless you really get to know them, stop sympathesizing them or commenting on them. we dont feel good - cos we are not what you think we are.

I am a Muslim American. I have seen both sides of the coin within my own family, who is very mixed in race and religion. My family consists of Muslims, Jews, Christians, and Agnostics. My family is also a mix of European, South American, Asian, Indian, and African. Within my family, I have seen oppression of females in all the races and religions, and I have seen equality within them as well. This leads me to believe that the fair and equal treatment of women by men has nothing to do with religion or race, but more with social influences.

There are radical Muslims just as there is radical Christians and Jews. The poor treatment of women is not isolated to Islam. It only seems that way because Islamic radicals are in the political and media spotlight right now.

From observations of my family and friends, who are Muslim, I can tell you that gender equality is in full effect, compared to the rest of the world. I have many female doctors, lawyers, and computer programmers in my circle of family and friends. Their husbands treat them with a lot of respect and admiration. My own girlfriend has a PhD and is a more accomplished writer and thinker than I am, and I have no problem with that. I am proud to be with her. She is also a Catholic.

On the other hand, I also have some older uncles who beat my aunts and keep them locked in the house. This includes my christian family members. My entire family feels bad for these women, but they choose to stay with their husbands because it is "the right thing to do." This "thing" that is so right to do is also held in the values of mid-westerners of the U.S. as one of my mid-western female classmates pointed out to me.

Islam is not the cause for the oppression of women. Society and economic standing is more likely to be the cause. In general, those who abuse women, in my family and friends, are not as well to do as others in my family. They are also usually less educated. Ignorance is NOT bliss. Ignorance is a lifetime of blood, sweat, and tears.

Hopefully, you are not in one of these situations, but if you are, I can only suggest that you leave immediately. It will only get worse. If this is something you have just been hearing in the media, then you need to do some research and learn not to believe everything you hear. The media IS biased. It will report in a manner to get a reaction from the masses rather than being a non-biased information source. Learn to think for yourself as my girlfriend, and many other women in family have, and you will be a happier and better informed person.

Islam does recognise them, the Islamic countries doesn't. However, not ll of them are like that. You'd be surprised to see that many countries (like Jordan) treat the women much better than Western ones.

How long will it take for ANY religion to catch up with the rest of the world? Don't pick on the Muslims, they're no worse than any of the others--just different.

islam has given the most rigths to muslim women than any other religion or society!!!
women had these rigts 1400 yrs ago .. when women were treatedlike animals in the rest of the world...
islam treats women like princesses...
.. they'v got the right of divorce..
.. they get inheritance (christianity did not give women this right)
..... they'v got the right to vote..
..... the money they earn is only for THEMSELVES... not for their husbands or for their children.. only for themsleves.. they donot have to give them to anybody cuz in islam.. the Man has to provide the women n children with the neccessites of life etc
..... in islam.. women can go to court if their husbands donot give them enough money or the neccessities of life...
.....islam gives women respect.. so that they r not a show-piece so that the whole world can stare them or abuse them......

has ur reeligion or ur community given u all these rights??? from day one????
