It's definitely got to do with both of them, you get different forms of depression, the one you go through when you have had a baby is illness, but when you are depressed because you broke up with your boyfriend is a state of mind it all depends on you how Long you are going to be depressed, the first you actually need medication for, the second you need a good jol and meet someone else. Depending on what is causing the depression that is what determine's what type of depression it is.

Over the last five years I had begun to have increasingly withdraw into a downward spiral of depression..

an illness that effects your state of mind. I'm just at the end of treatment and can notice a considerable difference in myself since being on medication. However, I would still recommend natural remedies for depression due to the effects the medication had on me.

I would say it`s both which if left untreated only gets worse. I once thought depression was only an illness until someone very close to me committed suicide. I now realize depression is a very serious thing to suffer from

Down time is normal. Feeling down is "normal" clinical depression is malfunctioning brain stuff which causes a poor state of mind.
