Well, how is believing in fictional "demons" like Cthulhu (who is actually an ancient god, not a demon) any different than believing in the fictional demons that Christianity talks about?
Oh, yeah, and some people do it because it's fun. Like when my family says we worship Crom, the god of Conan the Barbarian.

Cthulu is evidently a fictional demon but I woudn't be so sure about Loki for example or Zeus or any of the heathen gods since it seems people had an experiance of them.

The only difference between C'thulhu and the Abrahamic "god" is the time since the invention of such fictions: 100 years for the former, 2500 years for the latter.
Additional to "MorbidFanatic":
I enjoy HPL's fiction, but he wasn't a great writer. He was a hack who was paid a penny per word. For that little money, writing massive amounts of drivel is the only way to earn a living.

The people I know who express a belief in Cthulu, (or Loki, or IPU or FSM) do it sarcastically, to express how ridiculous we find belief in the Xian god.

Tell her to spell Cthulhu right if she is going to threaten you with it. The answer is simple. H.P. Lovecraft was a great writer. His mark on society lingers still.

it's quite funny , people believe in some of the dumbest things its their way of explaining things they cant explain, in lots of ways we can explain a phenomena but some people are so closed minded they are not willing to accept the facts..

Once you stop believing in ficition, it's just a matter of time 'till reality doesn't seem like much either.

Do those "other things" you won't name include such things as God, Jesus as God's son, and the like?
