I have driven it many times to visit family who are in the Windsor and Detroit area.
Beilive me, it's a boring drive. It's like driving through the praries in Manitoba or Sakatchewan or something. It must be the flatest area of Southern Ontario. It's mostly tobbaco and wheat fields.
Also, I don't know what it is, but about half way through the drive just after the London area, there is an odd smell. I have noticed several times driving down there. It's very sickening, but I think it comes from the farms or some sort of sewage place, or factory. Whether it was just a temporary thing (I noticed it two trips in a row, that were close in dates) or not, I don't know.
And yes watch out for the cop cars. It's almost like the speed trap on Route 19, West Virginia were 10 thousand tickets were given out in 2004.
Those under cover cop cars are every were. I count about 5 pull overs each time we go down. 6 including the one time I was pulled over. I think they monitor it because speeding was bad a while ago, people thought there wouldn't be any speed enforcement out in the middle of no were.
When your driving back, if you plan on stopping at a Travel Plaza / service center, then stop at the big one with the green tinted windows (you can only see the tint in the day). It's one of the best travel plaza's because they have all sorts there. All the otheres along the highway are dirty and old.
Have a fun and safe trip :-)

I agree. There is not much to look at, as it is mostly flat land as far as the eye can see. I thought that was great, in a way, because there would be no surprise cops hiding behind the bushes to give you a ticket... wrong!
Unlike Detroit, they have regular unmarked police traffic cars. I have seen a turquoise colored Camaro and a black Trans Am cop car so far. The lights are on the inside, so you dont see them until they are flashing and pulling you over, and a ticket can be in the $300cdn range. Ouch! (And no, the "oops, I thought the 100 on the sign meant 100 mile per hour... what a kilometre?" won't work).
Just be careful driving at night, as it is pitch black and you can start to zone out watching the lines. I've always had the bad luck of driving thru foggy patches between Windsor and Chatham as well at night, not sure if that is an area prone to fog or not.
Have a safe and fun trip!

Well it's about a 4 hour drive and once you are out of Windsor there isn't much to look at. Jennifer_From_Mich was right about the unmarked police cars. There's a whole fleet of em from Hummers and Ram 1500's to Magnums and Camaros. They're pretty sneaky and good at what they're supposed to do. She was also right about the fog patches from Windsor to Chatham. The fog can come from nowhere and be very dangerous. I remember a huge 40 car pile up a few years back. The stretch between Windsor and Chatham is sometimes known as 'carnage alley'.
What you can mostly expect for the drive is Windsor, then straight road, farms, construction work, lots and lots of trucks, then Toronto. Enjoy the trip!

To the previous responses, I'll add that this can be a very dangerous drive during the winter because the winds blow the snow across the road, which becomes very slippery. Make sure you have snow tires on your car.
Safe travels!

Not really that scenic. That part of Ontario is very flat and pretty barren.
