I'm an Atheist, and I've read the christian bible, the Koran, the Torah, the Dhamapadma, the Tao te Ching, Bhaghivad Gita, many Sutras, the Maharabala and any other holy book I could get my hands on.
How many Christians have read the Nag Hammadi Lexicon (the Gnostic Gospels)?
How many Jews have read the Dead Sea Scrolls?
Get that library card out, people. Turn off the TV and start reading. Read somthing you are not "supposed" to. Expand your horizions.

You don't read the bible like reading a suspense novel or a thriller. Perhaps not even 50% of those who believe in the bible have read it in its entirety. But that is besides the point. If you are not a Christian why do you worry about it in the first place. All religion has its own bible, but all religion teaching some basic things. To believe in God no matter how you conceive him to be. To do unto others as you would like others would do unto you which is the Golden Rule.

Well I am reading the bible for the second time. The first time I just read it. This time I am reading it and studying it. Quite interesting. Now when you say "believe in the bible" I guess I do not understand. I believe in God, the bible was written by men who were trying to record history and their faith for the future. I do not agree with everything that I have read in it and I never will! This does not interfere with my belief in God. I use it to try and understand and live my life. Do you actually think that when John put his words down that he thought people this far in the future would be arguing about them?
What I do find amusing is that the people who argue against the bible seem to have studied it the most! But that is the point you are trying to make, isn't it

ARE YOU? IF YOU DID, DO YOU THINK YOU ALREADY KNOW THE TRUTH.
EVERYONE EVEN THE SCHOLARS INSIDE THE VATICAN IS CONTINUOUSLY DOING THEIR RESEARCHES, DEBATING WHICH IS THE REAL TRUTH TODAY COMPARED TO THE REAL TRUTH YESTERDAY AND WHAT REAL TRUTH WILL THERE BE TOMORROW.
EVEN IF YOU FIND SOMEONE WHO WILL CLAIM HE HAS READ THE BIBLE IN ITS ENTIRETY. YOU WILL STILL HAVE TO ASK HIM IF HE FULLY UNDERSTAND IT IN ITS ENTIRETY TOO.
SO. DO NOT ASK THE RELIGIOUS PEOPLE IN GENERAL IF THEY HAVE READ IT.
IT IS NOT A QUESTION OF HOW WELL YOU HAVE READ THE BOOK, IT IS A QUESTION OF HOW WELL DID YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE ACCORDING TO ITS TEACHINGS.
DURING THE EARLY TIMES WHEN SCIENCE OF LOOKING AT THE STARS ARE THE ONLY METHOD OF KNOWING THINGS ABOUT LIFE, PEOPLE BELIEVED IT WAS TRUE THAT THE EARTH WAS FLAT AND THAT WAS EVEN ILLUSTRATED IN THE BIBLE. RELIGION HAS CONDEMNED GALILEO FOR CLAIMING IT IS ROUND AND THAT IT EVOLVES AROUND THE SUN. NOW THE TRUTH ABOUT IT IS DIFFERENT AND WE ALL KNOW IT.
SO, WHAT TRUTH ARE YOU ASKING PEOPLE TO PREPARE FOR. OR YOU ARE JUST ASKING THIS QUESTION SO THAT YOU WILL HAVE A CHANCE AGAIN TO THROW AN INSULT TO THOSE WHO BELIEVE?
LET US BE THE REAL HUMAN BEING THAT CAN SHOW RESPECT BY ASKING QUESTION WE HONESTLY AND SINCERELY WANT TO KNOW WITHOUT TRYING TO PUT DOWN ONE ANOTHER.

I used to consider myself a religious person but I realized the limitations that it offered on my relationship with the Most High God. So now I worship without man made restrictions. But I truly believe that most people around 90% of the people that are heavy believers have not read the bible from cover to cover must less have studied it to make a clear attempt to know what message tje text is trying to give them.

I have been in church my entire life and I started highlighting verses that I read or that were read in church. My Bible looks more like a work book but after over 40 years, there are many scriptures that are not highlighted. It is my goal before I die to make sure that every page is in "yellow."
