I am assuming you are referring to man-made religions and not God-given faith. And as such I agree that we make almost everything with rules in order to get other people to maintain some sort of order for our world. And because of this, many people deny God and faith in him because they think it is a man-made "religion".

If you think about it, even God has given us rules to help maintain order in our society. He has given us instructions on how to live a good life, a Godly life. Granted most of us ignore those rules and do what we want and then wonder why life seems so bad, but they are there and we can't deny that.

Very interesting question. I pray my answer has provided you some insight you were looking for. May God bless you always!

Did you know that is a complete cop out? My brother says the same thing. All you are succeeding at is making a lame attempt at avoiding actually looking into religion for what it really is and what it's really about. I'm no holy roller. To be honest, I have no idea what my religious stance is...but this question is so typical of an agnostic. I've heard this same thought from several different people. Why don't you come up with your own ideas? Look into it yourself. I'd appreciate a thorough study of religion and what it entails, and an honest opinion on it. But as long as you're dishing out carbon copy answers that you pulled from drawer 3 of things you overheard, you are wasting everyone's time.

That's what it has become, especially Middle Eastern theologies, like Christianity or Islam. Originally religion was an attempt to explain the unknown and/or spiritual matters to people who haven't experienced them first-hand.

They didn't actually make it up. What they did was far more insidious. They took thousands of pages of ancient texts, edited them down to several hundred, then waged war on anyone who disagreed that these texts were a message directly from god. Pretty sneaky huh?

Sure did. The "no shellfish", "stone a disobedient child", "stone people working on the sabbath", and "no cutting the hair beside a man's temples" rules kind of gave it away.
