First of all, try to keep the paper by the front door. This way, when you eventually housebreak him, he'll head for the door when he has to go.

But for now, take a sheet of newspaper that he's already peed on and put it UNDER the clean sheets you want him to go on. Then sanitize the rest of the house with something that gets the scent of dog urine out. Then when he sniffs around for a place to go, he'll smell the dried up pissy paper underneath the clean paper and he'll want to go there again.

When he DOES pee on the paper, praise him like crazy and give him a little treat.

When he DOESN'T pee on the paper, as long as he had access to the paper and could've peed on it but didn't - scold him. 8 weeks is not too young to firmly say BAD BOY. Make sure he knows what you're scolding him for!! Bring him back to the accident, point at the puddle and ask sternly WHAT IS THIS? BAD BOY... Then clean and disinfect that area.

If you see him sniffing around for a place to go (you'll learn the subtle signs by watching him) or you catch him in the act of actually going, pick him up and put him on the paper and say PAPER. If he gets so much as a DROP on the paper, praise him like crazy.

He will learn very quickly that you become extremely pleased when he does the right thing - and you are displeased when he doesn't.

I don't agree with crate training - unless the person is so busy that they have no other choice. An 8 week old puppy needs TONS of physical contact and LOVE LOVE LOVE. Not isolation in a crate.

People also say not to scold your dog for peeing in the house... Okay, see how long it takes to train him without doing so. They're not the ones cleaning up after him. You are.

you have to get a pen and line the inside with paper and only leave a spot big enough for his water, food, bed, etc., then after a couple days take away some paper. Keep doing this until there is a little bit of paper and he is going on it. Then you can take the pen away, he should still go on the paper, if not then you have to bring back the pen.
You have to keep him in the pen at all times until he learns to use the paper.
P.S. puppies DO have accidents so never scold him, it's YOUR fault for not putting him outside or on him paper.

8 weeks is too young to be trusted.
Let him out only when you can watch him, otherwise keep him in the crate. But he shouldn't be crated for more than 4 hours at a time.

he is just a puppy and he probably cant really hold it that long... u have to watch him all the time and just see for signs and check when he has to go-- sniffing, and stuf and like other stuf) and then just try to train.
