Christopher Lowell made "windows" from flourescent lights by building a box around a large light fixture and painted "shadows" from bamboo trees onto plexiglass...I believe. It looked real. You might find that project on his website.

What you want to do is build a box out of wood that looks like a window frame, but is basically a shadow box... after you do that put lights inside the box and either use opaque plexi glass and use curtains, or get a plastic semi transparent window design to put on it that allows the light show through.. then you will have the illusion of a window. If you have a home depot in your area, they should be able to give you some more tips on doing such a project.

get an old window frame, then paint an outdoor design on the glass, form a box with 1 by 4s and mount a full spectrum light on the back of the window, inside the box frame, to get it to look more realistic you might want to do a milky translucent sheet of plexiglass behind the glass and in front of the light so the light isnt too strong. hang with a couple of good sized metal hanging brackets and bulldog hangers. let the cord hang down behind the box to a socket and plug in for instant daylight. good luck and have fun.

Irv Hecker of Bio-Brite Corporation has designed an affordable, lighted imitation window that is suitable for home use. While artificial windows are not a new idea, this one features a unique, ultra-thin design and a variety of "views," which can be easily changed.

Once you construct the window you will need a florscent light fixture in it for the light. The bulbs for the fixture come in many color types. You want to use WARM WHITE DELUX. This is a yellow light and has the closest resemblance to sunlight.

You could mount a flat-panel computer monitor on your wall and have a video clip of a waterfall or other nature scene playing on it continuously. You could frame it with curtains and close them when the scene starts to annoy you.
