I have two in alarms in my home. One is a combo smoke & minoxide detector that is located in my upstairs hallway on the ceiling & the 2nd is a plug in unit that is located in the same hallway, only closer to the floor & just for carbon minoxide. First the ceiling unit was going off & we just thought that maybe the battery was bad, so we changed it & went about...Sometime afterward, the floor one started to go off...so we unplugged it and checked around a little wondering about it, but we are not using any heat right now. We are using our a/c which is forced air, but other than that...no gas stove either. I plugged the one unit into a different outlet & it went off a few times...I put my hand over the front of it, & it stopped. I made my husband change the battery again in the ceiling unit & also perform a test on it. It did the test & did not go off. I moved the one back also near the floor again. About an hour later, the one on the ceiling went off again...but not the floor unit.

What should I do? I am concerned for my babies...Could this be a false reading? How accurate are these things?

There really is no reason for anyone to be rude to ma about this...I am asking because I do not know about these things or about how accurate they are. If we were using the furnace or cooking or something, then I would not BE asking anyone...
SO...for anyone that is just gonna be rude, please, just keep your comments to yourself. You have no right to call anyone stupid...especially when your anonymous!!!!

Carbon Monoxide is an odorless and poisoness gas. The first step to take when your Carbon Monoxide detector goes off is to open all your windows to vent your house. According to A Healthy Me, you should also call 911 immediately.

Open the windows and put on a fan.

Get fresh air into the house asap.

Then call the 911 number and ask what to do.

Call the gas and electric co emergency number.

You should be OK with the windows open and the fans on. Did it only happen when you were running the air conditioner?

After your house has fresh air coming in it try the alarms again.

Be sure to try them by your babies rooms. Be sure to call 911 and ask them if it's safe to stay.

Thank God you had the 2 Detectors going. The problem usually is when there are no detectors and then you would have no idea that there was a problem until it was too late. The CO detectors are usually quite sensitive and let you know early on.

God Bless You and your family.

***I just read some of the other posts. It sounds like people want you to panic. I think you are doing fine.***

Get someone to test for carbon monoxide gas in your home, using a proper gas sensor.

Have you installed new carpet or flooring lately?? new carpet almost always generates gases, especialy cheaper brands of carpet and underlay.
certain building products can give off gases after installation.

another thing you mentioned,,,you said you where using your a/c,,,it is possible the a/c unit is pulling in carbon monoxide from an outside source.

better to be safe than sorry, get some tests done by proffesionals.

You need to get out of that house with your little ones now. Do not take any risks. Carbon Monoxide Poisoning can be fatal especially to little ones.

Tomorrow you can have someone check the house to see if it is a false alarm. The symptoms may seem subtle at first. And with little ones you may not even realize there is something wrong till its to late.

I have had this twice in my life. It can kill you.

Please get out until you have someone check your home.

Cabon monoxide comes from incompletely burning fuel. If you aren't burning anything, and it is hard to imagine you would be in this heat, then it is most likely humidity/condensation that is setting off the detectors. Unless you smoke or are cooking something.

It happened to us and we called the gas company and they found a leak from our furnace. You dont need to be running it , if the piolot light is on there is gas. We were told to get out and stay out until we had it repaired. This is not something to guess about. You need to get a gas repairman in asap and stay out until then. It is not likely that two alarms would malfunction.

Well, lessee...your CO alarms went off. For a reason, no doubt. You're worried about your little darlings. So what do you do? Get on ******* Yahoo Answers to ask advice from a bunch of strangers???

GET THE **** OUT OF THE HOUSE.

You get out of the house.
Then you have someone who is a professional check it out tomorrow.
Get out, find a hotel, call someone, make sure.... You have little ones who are more sensitive, you don't second guess yourself.
