Good Question! It has caused me to evaluate my parenting skills! ha ha
I am a yeller, I wish I could yell less. My father was a hitter though and I would take yelling over that anyday!
Before i got pg with my second I felt really good about the kind of parent I was, now though I really feel like I have NO patience for my little one, It makes me sad, I hope it is over once the second one pops out!

While I am not a parent, I was raised by them. One thing that I recommend is to always be open and honest with your children. If there is a big issue that they need to know about, or they ask a question that you are not sure how to respond, ask their pediatrician or a professional.
One of the worst things is to ignore a question. I would say "Honey, mommy (or daddy) does not know the answer, but why don't we find out together?"
This will include the child, and give them a sense of learning things for themselves, while knowing they can go to you for help.

I'll try to be like my parents, but practice only the parts that made sense to me, giving up the over protectiveness and detail lectures on things. I'd let my kids grow up on their own.
There is always room for improvement, so being better parents should be a matter of practice. I don't think there is really any guidebook to that-

Spending some more 1 on 1 time. It's hard with busy schedules to sit down and put everything else aside that needs to be done. They grow up so quickly!

I need to lighten up a little or maybe a lot. I seem to forget what being a kid is like. All I ever do is say, stop this...stop that....don't do this....don't do that...clean this.....clean that. I am not asking them to stop because what they are doing is bad or wrong or whatever, I am making them stop because it is noisy or messy or something that really shouldnt matter. They are just being kids. I don't let them go wild enough

just love your child and remember what it was like to be that age. In the infant stages that we dont remember, try to imagine what it would be like to move to a foreign country all alone, and not be able to anything for yourself.
Give them lots of love and keep them safe. And never be afraid to ask for help, because it isnt always easy.

since my kids have grown and gone, all I can do is listen when they need and offer my opinion, not advice. looking back, the listening part would have been a great tool. opinion and advice should have been guidance. give them the opportunity to learn to make informed decisions. but above all, more love and understanding.
