Or, alternatively, if Hell was described in such a way that it was evident that it was merely a comparative state to perpetual infinite bliss, rather than being eternal punishment and suffering for limited sins?

Well Mr Mister, giving you the benefit of the doubt that it IS truth...

What's more important? Truth? Or people loving and serving god? It seems mighty selfish to prevent people from getting into heaven for the sake of "so called" truth. But then again I'm agnostic, what do I know?

I don't think alot of people want to be responsible for their actions. Some people are afraid to admit there is a Hell because they just may end up there.God gave us all a free will or choice and I'd rather be safe than sorry. It's not going to hurt you to believe in Heaven and Hell it will hopefully cause you to find the right path and make the right choices and live a better life.

It wouldn't make any difference to me. There is more evidence to suggest Jesus was a myth rather than an actual historic figure. even without the hell doctorine(which could be eternal fire, darkness, non existence. Just depends on which scriptures one reads), still has disgusting views regardless. Making people non existent because they dont know such divine truth is still a BS punishment.

Also I wouldn't want to believe something simply because it MAY sound nice. I would prefer to believe the TRUTH. And if the truth was discovered to include an eternal firey torture chamber from God, then i would rather believe that, no matter how terrible it may sound.

Christians cant provide conclusive evidence for any of the great claims the bible makes.

Hell has nothing to do with it. It's organized religion praying on the poor little sheep who don't know better. They just feed on the weak minded use them as pawns. So Hell is not even the issue it's the sick people who say they are a pointed by god who make me not want to believe. They are sick and evil I don't trust a word of it that comes out of their mouth. The bible was written by a man. As many people in high power of religion you see raping boys or trying to sell holy water to bring money, is all to make the sheep follow them. So they cant rape you blind. I'm not sure if hell has any reason to do with not believing. It's the sick individuals that run and organize the religion. I know if i live my life in a good way, respecting others, and live in the light, what happens to me will be the same as what happens to Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhist who all live in a wholesome pure life. Whatever that is no one in the world knows but we all know it's got to be good. So to hell with organized religion!

Hell has little to do with my decision in religion. It is an aspect of Christianity but not all there is too it. I am not Christian because I don't believe in many other aspects of the religion. It is true my beliefs do not include a hell, that doesn't mean its lacking or anything.

ROFLMAO-

There are groups who do not believe in hell, join them.

Or Find a good story book like oh Lord of the Rings and worship there.

You are either a seeker of the truth or not, if you are not, doesn't matter what you believe.

If you do not believe in Heaven then you can not believe in hell. Hell is the religious means to make you abide by the Church's rules, most faith is based on fear. Hell to me is things that I encounter in my life (liberals, lack of common sense, rap, terrorists), in the same line of thought my own personal heaven exists in my current life (family, security, health). I accept that when death comes it is all over, no afterlife except for the memories or contributions that you make during your short stay on earth, other than that I will be worm food.

Perhaps but with the good news we have to give also the bad. Once again Hell is very real.

If you can explain to me the talking snake, the burning bush, the parting of the red sea, the forgetful mention of dinosaurs, how Noah got all 50,000 animals and one million insects of the Earth's inhabitants (correctly identified by sex - before the advent of microscopes) on a boat, how Jesus walked on water, Jesus turned water into wine, virgin birth, Jesus rose from the dead, Jesus "healed the sick"... all aren't a large parcel of lies, I might be a little more inclined.

Until then, I'm gonna keep on believing that all religions that claim miracles and supernatural interventions is a bunch of garbage.

My choice to live as an Atheist has nothing to do with Hell, nor with Heaven. It has to do with hypocrisy and rhetoric.

If a Christian lives a life in a manner relative to the behavior they advocate, I have respect for them as people. Unfortunately, the most vocal "Christians" often do not do so.

Since there is no demonstrable hell, or heaven either, the question can't really be answered. People of intelligence make decisions based on evidence, which in Christianity is in very short supply. (Sorry -- the bible doesn't count -- too full of errors.)
