If it's noise that's bothering you, I suggest earplugs instead of drugs.

If you feel like your sleeping habits are affecting your everyday life in a negative way, I'd seek the help of a doctor. You may have insomnia ..and that can be brought on by many problems, however most are not severe.
You may just need to be temporarily put on a prescription hypnotic such as ambien or xanax - just ask your doctor.
In the mean while try Tylenol PM. They work well, but you may have a slight hangover in the morning; they don't work that quick either. So you may need to take a couple about an hour before you go to bed.

I am usualy a very light sleeper, also, Which I feel is good, because some people I know will sleep through a train wreck, I would like to think I would wake up if something was needing my attention, so I dont worry abiout sleeping light, But it is nice to sleep through the night and get enough rest, I recently got a new mattress thats kind of firm, but I put a memory foam topper on it, It took a week or two to get used to it, but I am sleepin through the night much better, now. also I love the sound of a fan on when Im sleeping, the white noise thing, It really helps block out everything when I really need to sleep.

That has also been a problem for me for years. It's funny because for most of my life i slept through everything. But now I sleep with a fan on so I can snuggle under my blanket. Once i get comfortable under my blanket i fall asleep and for the most part I stay asleep. Good luck.

I sleep the same way. It is not a problem if you can fall back to sleep. The other question is if you feel OK the next day. If you are not drowsy or tired and can concentrate then it is not a problem.
The side effects of sleeping pills would rule out their use if you don't really have a problem.

Try melatonin. It is a natural substance which will put you to sleep fast and keep you there. It works fast, take about 1/2 an hour before bedtime. You can find it in any drug store in the vitamin section.

I used to work in graveyard shifts (8pm to 8am). I do not take sleeping pills to help me sleep because these pills make you sleep physically while your mind is still alert when someone walk by your bed. Some more sleeping pills is additive.
In order to help me sleep, I did the following:
- use lavender aromatherphy : Be careful because some friends of mine have headache when they smell lavender.
- take melantonin : Melatonin is non-additive and can be bought off the shelf. You can take up to 6mg. Try to get 1mg per capsules because you can try increase the dosage starting from 1mg. 1mg works for me while my colleague needs 3mg. There are books solely on mleantonin, one book mentioned that this supplement is able to prolong youth....
Hope it helps.

Perhaps you could start conditioning yourself to sleep thru noise. Start leaving a radio on real low and see if that helps. Benadryl helps me get to sleep and stay asleep.
