I am getting a major haircut this week, and I want to recolor my hair, too. I dye my hair myself but I will be getting my hair cut at a salon. Should I dye my hair at home before or after getting it cut? Does it really make a difference?

When I asked the director of the cosmetology school I attended, she said color then cut, because if you color after you cut, the color might be absorbed more at the tips than along the shaft of the hair, giving the tips a different color, probably darker, which would look unnatural. Unless you're going for unnatural, this wouldn't be good.

You should cut it first because you'd be saving hair dye, why go through the trouble of coloring your hair when you'll have an easier time with less hair to color?

Dye it first. Then get the cut. If you color first, then your hair will have the same "chemically treated" texture from roots to ends. Also , your stylist will know how much of the damaged ends need to come off after you color. Good luck, I hope you love your new look!

Cut first, others wise what is the point of dying it when you are going to cut it? After is is cut, you will be able to use less dye, but it will better get into all areas of your hair more easily-common sense

well you should cut it first. and then dye it. so you wont waste the dye and youll have some much left to colour the new growth. notice that if you colour long hair, at least 2 cm will stay your colour or just lighten slightly, so there is no point of doing it with long hair. beta cut it first to get it concentrated at the growths

It does not make a difference. You might as well cut it first, because you won't need to use as much hair color.

Get your hair cut first and see if it makes a better difference, where as coloring your hair isn't necessary anymore.
