James 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
if you gain the whole world and loose your soul what have you gained (YOUR SOUL)

In my personal view they are both important in their own right, and one can not properly function without the other. Logic and the mind is the primary means to "discover" the Lord Most High, Allah/God, and the heart is critical to build an emotional bond with the Mighty One and His grand representatives on Earth, completing the circle.
Mind is like the rider to me and emotions and heart is like the horse. If the mind is guiding properly the rider and horse will ride in the correct direction towards their goal and destination. If the mind is not paying attention, the horse may take off in any direction. If the horse was not there, it will take longer for the mind to traverse the distance without the emotional energy to move you.
So, they are completely interdependent and intertwined. One can not exist without the other. In my personal view as a Muslim this balance is the key. The atheist tries to not have the horse and the Christian only wants the horse, whereas Islam alone understands that both are needed to travers the great spiritual distances one can cover.
If the horse and rider example is not pertinent to the times today, then see them as the pilot who is the mind and the fuel (emotion) which gives energy to the hardware which is our physical body, which is the emotion. The body of the rocket is our physical selves. Utlimately everything has to work in tandem to get the best and most fruitful results.
In reality all examples are lacking. Ultimately the mind is the tool of justice and balance, and the heart and soul is the center of compassion, mercy and understanding. Mind is the boundary, the fort wall, which rejects the enemy from entering in, and heart is the center where the guests are taken care of in love and mercy.
I hope this makes sense.

That is one of those questions that have been asked down through time. some theologists thought the soul was in the heart . later it was moved to the mind. In some religions the soul fills the entire Physical body and a little beyond it.
IN the end it is the soul as that was created by the CREATOR of ALL THINGS before the creation of the physical universe from ITS own body.
The Creator made the physical body from the dust of the Earth to house the soul and let it move and live in the physical universe.
when the soul cannot sustain the physical body any longer it separates and the body disintegrates back into the Earth fro which it was made and the soul returns to the Creator.

You have to believe in the soul to answer it. The heart is simply an organ responsible for moving blood.
Now, if you believe in the soul, the immortal soul, that's more important as it is who you are and who you will be; the mind is simply a physical manifestation (along w/the rest of your body) of the soul.
Now, if you don't believe in the soul... then it's the mind by default.

In the earthly body, one couldn't exist without the other. As a Christian, I have BOTH my soul and my mind open so to more fully receive and share the Love of God.
In The End, the earthly body dies, and the soul takes all the knowledge and lives on. So I still think it would be both.

Your soul lives eternally as a spiritual entity. The body, mind, ego and emotions die with the physical being.
The mind is only important in this lifetime. The mind thinks it needs to learn. In fact, the soul already knows everything there is to know. We are not here to learn, but rather to remember, who we really are.
We are spiritual beings experiencing a human existence. This is how we serve God. By experiencing life.

Both are important..
There are things and situations that we use the heart and the mind..in a different way and time..
For me...
I open up my heart for loving, caring , sharing etc blah blah...
I open up my mind in reasoning, thinking logically...being optimistic in life...
But most of the time..for me
Everything that I do, I THINK with my MIND..
and consult it with my HEART at the same time..if it is best sake for myself and to others...

Christians and Atheists are both wrong...so with all the other man-made religions. There is a God, but God never created any religion....men did. I believe that the mind is more important than emotion (your so-called "heart").

The heart is more about your emotions than your soul (metaphorically anyway).
I believe both those, and your soul are vitally important, and that ultimately, the soul is more important than the other two.

A well-rounded person (with or without religion) would need an open mind and an open heart to exist peacefully in society.
