I checked my credit report and there are two collections account for $313. Apparently the one was bought out by the other company earlier this year. I called and asked what the debt was for and they said it was an ATT account back in 1998 and told me the address and phone number it was for. I never lived at that address, never had that phone number, never had an account with them. i found hundreds of complaints filed at ripoffreport.com and on BBB by others stating they have same thing on their credit report. I want to make sure that I have these removed.

I agree, write the credit bureaus and tell them that not only is it a fraudulent account, that since it is showing as an account from 1998, it is also obsolete and they should delete it immediately.

You should first send both collection agency's cease & desist letters. Also state that the account is not yours and since the account shows to be from 1998 it is long past the statute of limitations for collecting. Send those letters certified mail return receipt. When you get the green card back, send in your disputes to the credit bureaus.

Do everything by mail and sent certified mail return receipt.

Even if you are in the right, it may be a struggle to get those off of your reports and get those collectors off your back. If you are lucky it will work, but it's best to have a paper trail just in case.

If the collectors verify with the bureaus and the bureaus don't delete, file complaints on all of them with the FTC, BBB, your states attorney general and, for the collectors, their states attorney general. Then send in another dispute to the credit bureaus including your complaints with it.

If they still report, sue all of them. (thats where your paper trail comes in handy.)

I just had a fraudulent collection item removed from my credit history. I wrote a letter to the credit bureau detailing to them that the account was fraudulent. The fraud was committed by a relative and the linked address was my family home, however during the time of the fraud I was away at college. In my letter to the agency, I enclosed documentation that I was living elsewhere during the time of my fraud - copies of my lease, utility and phone bills. I got an updated credit report in the mail a few weeks ago stating that the item has now been removed from my credit report.

If you can provide some sort of proof to back up your statement, the agencies are pretty efficient about removing these items. I wish you the best of luck.

You have to dispute this with the credit reporting agencies like Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union. GOOD LUCK it is very difficult to get it removed.

you may want to imagine about exhibiting up. If no longer something else, to verify how a lot you owe. And to make it undeniable that you're literally not attempting to tear them off. Collections brokers ought to stay with particular regulations and regulations, depending on the position you stay. you may want to verify what those regulations are... wish that helps.
