I had a shop for 10+ years in Smithtown LI,NY. Basically a moneyed area.
It was a full service shop but hair cutting was the shops roots.
I opened with a partner and we were fortunate from day one.
The shop took off immediately and on any given day we had between six to ten stationed operators and two helpers up front and two color stations, nails and perms in back all busy most of your average day.
Weekends were a zoo.
We were lucky, the shop did well for the better part of the ten years. Right up until we ran out of lease.
We tried everything to no avail. The property owner, a nice man actually, badly needed the room of our shop to expand his own business of forty years.
We lost our hearts with the lease.
Oh, we moved OK, a temporary move initially with a space we really liked promised to us as soon as the failed business located at that location closed after not paying rent for six months. much fought, good lawyers and the courts allowed him another seven months before he was finally evicted.
By that time,my partner, completely disappointed with our dilemma bailed out and moved, opening a shop in a new area.
I never bothered after that. I often miss it.
